Anyone who’s grown up in that area knows how mixed opinions are about Jean. Personally, I hope she gets justice, but I’ve heard both sides of this story.

No one deserves to be murdered, no matter what others believe them to be guilty of or how mixed opinions may be in the area she is from. Surely we can all agree on that?

In theory no one deserves to get murdered no matter what they do, least of all a mother of 10. In reality, in war situations, people get murdered all the time though. The people that were in the IRA risked dying, the security forces risked dying, and equally informers knew there was a risk of dying.

          2. Clampers Outside!

You can’t bundle informers and IRA members into the same pot. That’s totally and utterly idiotic. Informers are often forced into informing by the situation created by the opposing sides. They are dragged into it, by conscience, revenge, a sense of right, who cares the reasons… but you cannot put informers in the same pot as the vigilantes on either side…. informers are a product of the so called war, not instigators like the IRA.

            Grow up!

Clampers, with all due respect you have not got a clue what you’re talking about. Do you personally know informers or IRA members? You act like you have a window into their consciences. Yet anyone that grew up in the area would not agree with what you say. How do you explain that one?

My colleague grew up there. I’ve been reading this to her over lunch. She reckons clampers is right and that Karl is a git. How do you explain that one?

Not touching Karl’s statement with a 10 foot bargepole but Clampers, Calling the IRA Vigilante’s and Instigators?

Come on, one persons terrorist is another persons freedom fighter etc.

          6. Dan

Are they (the IRA) freedom fighters if the people “who they represented” feared to cross them due to the repercussions?

          7. Dan

            @ Karl

It makes no difference at all if you heard “the other side of the story”. The woman was murdered. I hope the perpetrators are brought to justice.

        2. Steph

Did it go something like “murdering civilians is ok” and “murdering civilians is not ok”?
Was she given a trial? Was she given fair representation? Where’s her body? Were her family told? Did she have the right to an appeal?

Cattle go through more screening processes before being slaughtered than any of the victims of the the troubles did.

@ Karl — Even if she were an informer, can you not acknowledge how vulnerable she was. A single parent of 10 children whose husband had just died, god knows what she felt she had to do to survive and keep her family together. She did not deserve such an end.
