Wellington Quay, Dublin this afternoon.
Can you help?
Grainne, of the Abortion Rights Campaign, writes:
The occupants of 51 Wellington Quay found themselves with the locks changed and an hour to vacate the premise when they arrived to work this morning.
The building which was home to a number of NGOs, a hair salon, immigration advice and an English Language tutor service was evicted in dubious circumstances. All the tenants had their rent fully paid up but seems there was a dispute between letting agent and landlord.
Volunteers and supporters of ARC [Abortion Rights Campaign] rallied round to strip the office bare, and ferried furniture and boxes to attics and garages all over Dublin. It’s not expected that the deposit will ever be seen again.
If anyone had budget friendly offices to rent or would like to donate to the Abortion Rights Campaign please visit us here or email info@abortionrights.ie
Anyone?

Very sorry to hear of this. Abortion Rights do very important work.
+1 :(
Not sure what kind of lease or tenancy agreement the occupiers had signed but it is practically impossible to evict tenants at such short notice under Irish landlord and tenant legislation. I know it’s too late now, but they should have stood their ground and if needs be waited for the police to show up.
Maybe they were all subletting from the letting agent? It doesn’t make sense to me otherwise. Hope you and the other businesses find new premises soon.
Makes no odds. Only a judge has the power to evict, youd be perfectly within your rights to kick the door back in and reoccupy.
Dispute is between the letting agent and the landlord, the sheriff arrived to evict with no notice to tenants and was going to seize the contents of the office. Legal advice is being sought.
Best wishes to all. Hope this gets worked out
Isn’t the old Youth Defence HQ still for let on Capel Street? You might want an exorcist to give it the once over though.
This is God’s righteous judgement on those barbarous wretches who have imbrued their hands in so much innocent blood.
I’ll be honest, I expected more locusts and rains of blood. If this is his judgement then they can’t have been doing much wrong.
Yes. Yes, of course it is. Dickhead.
Oooh. That reminds me. The old Youth Defence offices are vacant. They could go there!
So he’s mad but not THAT mad?
Haha!
Punishment for a mortaller: Find a new office…
Its like a slightly annoying inconvenience. A little bit like the majority of all abortions that occur under 12 weeks that are not massive surgical interventions and look like a heavy period.
What does this mean?! Is it a sign that He understands and is actually ok with it all and believes that women should have autonomy over their reproduction?! Or is it just a shi*** landlord?!!!
Irony on Broadsheet? I’m afraid you’ve misread the room, sickof.
But I like “imbrued” a lot. People should imbrue more things in stuff.
Ha! I had to look it up. I would have said imbrued with rather than in, but as I never heard of it before, I’m probably wrong.
In fairness tho, ABM used to post stuff like that all the time. And while I had a theory that ABM was really Bodger enjoying himself far too much, it was certainly written to be taken seriously!
I don’t think it was. Maybe there were a few different ABMs but I always admired his ability to get knee jerk responses. Was genuinely good satire that people took seriously. Maybe I’m wrong. Sickofallthisbs was clearly being facetious here though.
Of course, those few Christian souls who make decent points about trying to stem the degeneration of our laws and the incremental slip towards abortion on demand placing women’s lives at risk and a culture which places the traditional family under attack are never serious, committed and determined but there to be mocked and their views labelled satire.
This country is slowly waking up to the apocalyptic demands of the liberal agenda and the stifling of those voices, particularly religious ones, who dare to challenge the media-driven group think and PC consensus which flies in the face of the Natural Law and basic facts of life.
Mock all you want, I’ll have the last laugh.
Mani is ABM
The Catholic thing was an elaborate ruse; his real target was men who live with cats.
Whether the real ABM means it or not is hardly the issue. When someone will never be convinced or deflected, piling in against him with the mainstream view isn’t conversation. It’s preening.
“Mock all you want, I’ll have the last laugh.” -ABM
no you won’t , you’re probably old and going to die soon.
So the furniture was sort of aborted from the officrs? Kind of ironic.
Sounds like an illegal move by the landlord.
“THIS JUST IN…….Another Landlord is a C*nt!”
On a side note, Ireland needs a lot more professional landlords who know what they’re doing, know the law, and have funds to actually maintain a building without hiking up the rent to cover expenses and the mortgage.
Kieran,
I hope you posted that before I gave you a few links on that safe as houses thread.. I’m afraid to check the timestamp.
KARMA!
Hahah
Jubilate by all means, bit I pray to God the alien concept of Karma does not get a foothold in Ireland. We are not Hindoo yet.
A couple years ago I had a similar situation threatened on me. I called Threshhold and asked for advice – they told me that there were two laws in Ireland regarding tenancy, the actual law and dublin law. They went on to say that if I received a threat like that and since it was in Dublin, I should take it seriously and exit the premises before it happened. No lie.
For those of you that think it is “karma”, I hope you also realise that it is “karma” that makes all of you pay to support all the children and single mothers through social welfare. Karma indeed.
