No experience required. Apart from a degree in Neuroscience.
That’s ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as a call centre job I saw today advertised on jobs.ie as “Third level degree essential.” The starting salary was €20,000… Scambridge is nothing more than an excuse for slave labour and maintaining low wages. If someone had the qualifications for this job, I doubt they’d take it, I know I wouldn’t. There’s a reason there’s mass emigration
This would be great for someone trying to get into research. Plenty of research assistants go on to do PhDs once the funding comes in. Is this not exactly the type of role that jobbridge was set up to help get people into?
The only ones to benefit from this post are the principal investigators who can get people to work for nothing essentially. This is the same work that they are paid well in excess of over 70K to do. It will make no difference to a person’s chances of getting accepted into a PhD programme.
It depends on your PI but if you have degree in neuroscience you should be being paid a fair wage for contributing to your PI’s academic papers etc
Well it does state you require a Neuroscience degree. What constitutes a ‘bad’ JobBridge job? I thought it was the shelve packers that gain no experience. Or are they all bad?
An acknowledgement that we gave you the tip off on that one would be decent, BS!
Looks like a great Job Bridge Internship. Lots of experience to be gained which will serve whoever the luck applicant is when they apply for other related roles.
Why not pay them the proper rate of pay then? How much of the research budget is allotted to conferences which pay for teas and lunches of invited guests at an expense that would easily help contribute to a decent salary? Why should research be done for free?
Conferences are usually paid by either the attendees paying registration fees, sponsors, the tourist industry (provides funding based on the amount of foreign travelers it would bring into the country) or a combination of all of them. Universities themselves spend, and make, very little on those conferences.
I agree in general that a job like this should be paid, but as JobBridge goes, it’s pretty decent.
In fairness, I can’t think of many better uses for JobBridge. Great experience in a difficult area (I presume) to get into without experience.
this type of position is what job bridge should be used for, not stacking shelves or serving coffee.
Aye. I’m pretty sure this is a model example.
This will not advance anyone’s research career. All it does is allow money in the budget of this research project to be allotted elsewhere, i.e. higher up the food chain.
Presumably this research assistant position didn’t exist without the internship. That’s a guess. Perhaps they are ripping people off.
I think the point is if you don’t like this JobBridge job than you don’t like any JB job, cause this one seems like good experience, which is the point of the scheme/scam.
But that’s just like, your opinion, man.
While this could be great experience for someone NINE MONTHS IS A FUPPIN’ ABUSE !
Plain and simple.
Yep, most probation periods are six months. You’d think that would be enough to have proven yourself.
Slavery. And before anybody says that such and such found employment through the scheme; without the scheme these good people would have found paid work anyway.
These people are stealing 9 months of people’s working lives.
The government need to start providing an indication of what the unemployment level will have to fall to to begin winding Jobsbridge down.
nobody forces anyone to take job bridge internships. Why should they wind it down?
You can come out the far side of a PhD and still be looking at jobbridge or retraining. You then wonder why you spent your youth on such follies.
The intern will do my thesis / doctorate for me.. fill out my cv and apply for jobs for me..
Good mornink, Doctor Frankenstein
This seems like an excellent use of JobBridge. Funding for science jobs has been much reduced so it is hard to gain experience. This could be a great stepping stone to further research opportunities.
