Credit Where Credit’s Due

Earlier today I stopped in Rathmines to pick something up on the way to visit my dad who’s in hospital. Whilst there, a couple arrived at my house to hand in my credit union book and a very large sum of money I had withdrawn earlier that day. They had picked it up off the street and chased some of the notes that the wind had taken and promptly came to my home to get it back.

I was blissfully unaware of this till my wife called and told me what had happened. She said they were a very nice couple who were only interested in getting the money back. She offered them a reward which they declined. They didn’t leave their names.

She thanked them but I didn’t get a chance to, so on the off chance they read these pages I just want to say thanks a million and a happy Christmas to you. I shall be making a donation to The Capuchin Centre for the homeless in recognition of your kind act.

It’s a great thing to see there are decent people on our streets and apart from my thanks, it’s a good news story worth sharing for the time of year that’s in it.

I would have done the same, I think 90% of people would too.
It’s a shame we hold onto this notion that Ireland is full of evil, selfish people when in fact they’re the ones who just make the headlines and make up a small percent of the population.
Most of humanity is completely decent.

        Concurring Figleaf!
Absolutely the fair majority of us would do same-not a bother.
        We’re all in it together.
‘Cept the murderously evil ISIS of course.

There are people like this around and they are in the majority. Unfortunately it is the scroates that get all the oxygen of media attention which creates the opposite perception.
Anyhow to the OP, you were lucky this time. Next time there might be a stronger wind and no couple around capable of chasing your notes so store your valuables a bit more securely. The donation was a lovely touch but your wife does have the right to give you hell for this for the next year. Accept it in good grace.

To the couple who returned the notes. You are a fine example to all of us. We’ll done and a very Merry Christmas. If Karma gets her act together soon, your reward for this should be wonderful.

I understand karma is still dancing for tips at lapellos but has promised to return to community college soon to finish her diploma in hospitality management as soon as she has the money. We can only hope that social services take her daughter charidee out of care then.

How much are we talking? If you are bringing this to all of our attention, we really need to know the amount. Are we talking €10 or €1,000?

Were the D6ers Ranalagh Rathgar Upper Rats maybe Dartry.

Now before ye get the knickers itching n twitching
A pal, Cork now Dartry, found, well one of the kids, a fair few bob in the Swan. And they managed to track down the out of pocketed.
Turned out that the bag had been lifted from another location. Thief lifted wallet , phone, perfume etc but left a diary / address book inside that had the tasty extra sheets.

Hick – you need to treat yourself one of those three fold wallets, that fit discreetly in your pocket, (rather than the bulkier two fold). A bit more expensive but its about keeping the size down. A chrissy present to yourself.

If this happens to you again, you might not be fortunate enough to be saved by the two shining examples of humanity, you write about here.

did the unnamed, mysterious couple have a newborn baby with them? or was the woman heavily pregnant?

its sounds like another UNSOLVED MYSTERY

    (cue creepy music)
