“I must confess to a feeling of sadness that 600 people are on trollies and thanks to VHI I am in a smart room in Blackrock Clinic.”

George Hook this afternoon after surgery to remove his head from Denis O’Brien’s colon on a knee.

The continuing visibility & popularity of this man has long baffled me. I suppose he appeals to the Irish Id in some sort of strange way. A sort of SuperValu Jeremy Clarkson.

He would be on a trolly too if his procedure was an emergency one. His VHI cover has little relevance to the A&E crisis. We need more investment in public services, not less. That means more taxes (preferably on high earners and corporations). We also need some way of ensuring that the public sector is running efficiently.

More efficiency rather than more investment. Apparently 800+ patients are waiting to be discharged while 600+ sit on trolleys.

I can well believe that. It took my wife about 4 hours to get discharged from Holles Street last summer after a very routine delivery.

i hope they whipped out his adenoids while he was there. it’s like listening to a malfunctioning tyre pump sometimes.

I love the Right Hook on the drive home and George is a fun part of it with his dogmatism and conservatism and mock-ignorance. I particularly enjoy his WW2 metaphors. He’s right – our health system is a failure. Sure isn’t it modelled on the US system of market-based insurance?

if i wanted all that, i’d just ring my da for half an hour. for me, it’s a newstalk embargo between moncrieff and off the ball on my radio.

only today i was talking to a patient who is 15 years waiting for her knee op. They keep giving her the excuses, it’s infected,it’s to swollen blah blah. She eventually got the money and had it done privately. Imagine the coincidence as soon she gets money there’s no risk.

Jesus. Ye must all be half deaf.
All I ever hear out’ve his trap is spittle splottle’ ing and jowel wobbling

i don’t think it’s the jowls that wobble when he talks about brian o’driscoll frilly. i think he’s dropped the hand, if you catch my drift.

George makes a fair point. There is plenty lying/sitting in A&E because of the lack of beds. A&E is not some separate island in a ‘not for profit’ hospital.
