Bogged Down In Bogotá

El Dorado International Airport, Bogotá, Colombia.

While taxiing towards the runway last night, the pilot of LH 543 [to Frankfurt] managed to undershoot the turn and get our plane stuck in the mud. Currently 18 hours into what we’re told will be a 30-hour delay, at least. Expected a much more efficient service from Lufthansa in fairness.

What’s with the airline related anger recently, I’m sure if they could get you out of there quicker they would… Sometimes accidents happen, I’d be glad it wasn’t worse to be honest…

I think the point is more about the lengthy delay getting people home from a capital city airport than the incident causing the delay.

Because airports in larger cities have planes to spare. How many flights do you think fly that route? I think it would be better to insure that aircraft is safe for take-off again. You?

It is an interesting pic. Other than that it is just whinging. Simon K should shut the fun up and look out the terminal window.

Normally when a plane can’t fly for an extended amount of time the airline tries to find seats on other flights for people with associated airlines. Since its a large airport its reasonable to presume seats would be found for passengers on other flights instead of waiting 30 hours to ensure the plane is safe for flight again. But thanks for the lesson.

So lets say there is a piecemeal approach to getting the passengers as close as possible to the intended destination….who goes first?

And if you were to go with this obviously stupid approach how long would it take down the list before it is clear that, when you take connecting flights and numerous other variables into account, it would take longer than the proposed delay currently on offer?

This is a long ass haul flight. The usual pop em on something else doesn’t apply. Anyway…That is in the past. Not trying to teach a lesson or be as condescending as my other post seems :)

            Have a good week.

Damn, if only there was some kind of online communication system that allowed a disgruntled customer to directly contact the service provider in question and vent their dismay in public.

    Now THAT would take off.

Think you are being a bit unreasonable. Youre entitled to be annoyed as its inconvenient, but look at it this way:
The original aircraft requires an inspection that will take longer than the 30hrs, so that’s not an option.
It’s only a one flight a day route by LHT, so they wont be able to get everyone on the cancelled flight onto the next flight.
Its an 11hr flight from Frankfurt to Bogota, so even if they had a spare A340 waiting to go, you are still talking about a serious delay time. And they would have to send something large enough to take all the passengers and for LHT, that means either another A340 or a 747.
Your best bet is stay clam, read up on your rights and make your claim for a delayed flight. For long haul, its a decent amount.
I realize this doesn’t help if you have plans made on the Frankfurt side.
