RTE reported this morning that the 70th anniversary might be the last time such a “concentration” (yes, seriously) of survivors turn up. 1500 turned up for the 60th anniversary, and just 300 today.

I’m sure you’re spot-on, and that is the reason, if you were 20 in 1945, you’d be 90 today, makes sense. Was just really drawing attention to the description of those who gathered today – “a concentration”.

Unfortunate move by Poland to exclude the Russians. Whatever about present-day tensions and abhorrence, this commemoration should have recognised the liberators as well as the victims.

There is a Russian delegation, though. I think they just refused to invite Putin himself. I could be wrong.

They didn’t invite any specific world leaders, invites went to each foreign embassy in Warsaw specifically because of what Russia is doing in Ukraine right now.

Interesting to remember that the first through the gates when it was liberated were Ukranian members of the Red Army.
