    While success in the same-sex marriage referendum is far from certain, it is quite heartening to see men like Pat Carey challenge the attitudes of Fianna Fail which to all intents and purposes is still an agrarian party with a tendency towards reactionary hostility to social change. As Olivia O’Leary recently pointed out, these are the type of people who will help change hearts and minds, not the commentariat of twitter or the hardline Roman Catholic right. Ordinary people not the usual suspects.
