Can also be seen defacing the bridge over the canal at Harold Cross. It seems these people have the same respect for public property as they do the law. None.

None of the Five were convicted of breaking any law. They were jailed by the ‘judge’ in a commercial ‘court’ so as to protect a corporate imperative to profit from the people’s right to life.
budgie
Classic example of sensationalism from you lot, I said respect for the law. They were jailed for contempt of court. From the Oxford Dictionary: Contempt, (also contempt of court) The offence of being disobedient to or disrespectful of a court of law and its officers. Look it up.
Zuppy International
Still not a crime. No harm or injury to any man or woman.
andyourpointiswhatexactly
A crime is an action or omission which constitutes an offence and is punishable by law.
No mention of any hurties being caused.
Zuppy International
You’re trying to conflate the meaning of ‘offence’ with the meaning of ‘crime’. It’s a common linguistic ploy: like conflating the meaning of legal with lawful. They are not the same thing. Every time Joan Brutal opens her mouth I am offended. Does that mean she is committing a crime? Possibly, but the burden of proof for each position is vastly different.
If the ‘courts’ are so sure of their position with regard to the ‘Five’ then why not hear their case before a jury? Then you’ve have real decision valid in law.
ReproBertie
Tell us ‘Zuppy’, what is the ‘meaning’ of ‘crime’?
Zuppy International
Causing injury or harm to any other man or woman without lawful excuse (self defence, for example).
But you know that.
ReproBertie
Is that ‘your’ definition or the legal definition?
ReproBertie
The ‘protestors’ were ‘jailed’ for contempt of court through breaching a court order.
Now they get all the free ‘water’ they want at the expense of the ‘taxpayer’ while they serve their ‘sentences’.
Is throwing single quotes around random words a thing now?
andyourpointiswhatexactly
‘Yup’.

Is sarcasm a ‘thing’?

” It seems these people have the same respect for public property as they do the law”
Yeah, great innit.
Here ya go –
“One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.”
“Protest beyond the law is not a departure from democracy; it is absolutely essential to it.”
― Howard Zinn
“It is not always the same thing to be a good man and a good citizen.”
― Aristotle, Selected Writings From The Nicomachean Ethics And Politics
“An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
But it’s da law
Not much of an intellectually rigorous argument that one.
That means you’re a dumb ass, dumb ass.
Jones
Can’t really compare the civil rights movement to a bunch of clowns disobeying court orders regarding hassling builders
Anne
I can and I will.
Builders? I think you mean water meter installation technicians or something..
Keith
All very valid quotes, and clearly you think they apply to “the 5”, but nobody can be entirely surprised that the law worked exactly as one would expect it to.
Part of protesting outside of the law is considering and accepting the consequences of your [unlawful] actions.
Maybe/probably “the 5” do, but there appear to be a lot of posts here that suggest that either the law acted inappropriately, or that the judiciary and the government conspired to pull these people away.
Anne
Not to get pedantic with you, but the law doesn’t act appropriately or otherwise. It’s not an independent entity.

“Part of protesting outside of the law is considering and accepting the consequences of your [unlawful] actions.”
Their solicitor has been quoted as saying –
“They are protestors, they believe they have the right to protest. They’re aware of the court’s order, they’re aware of the potential consequences,”
Christ TK ickle , corned beef??!! You’re already on some sort of Lenten scourge then, are ya?! Jesus, but that stuff’s rotten ! Thought only oul lads ate it
So surely somebody could update that graffiti and utilise the 5 as an “S”.
Can think of so many things I’d write then
Spaghetti Hoop
FREE the 5?
Why?
They’re guilty of breaching a court order.
They (4 of the 5) are now protesting because they don’t like their lock-up.
Defacing public property is also an offence. Maybe the 5 will clean it off when they are freed in a matter of weeks.

Free – the 5 ways to get cheap hotel nights in Dublin?
OK, what shenanigans have Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy got themselves into now. The rascals!
It was all Timmy’s fault. He peed on a water meter installer.

I thought Lucky Star was one of their greatest. Not sure about this comeback special. Prefer S Club 7.
And who will pay for cleaning this up…the taxpayer. Not that most of these protesters pay much of that.
