With their mad languages.
And spicy foodstuffs.
Stealing our referendums.
Alan writes:
I create graphics for the YesEquality social media campaign for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The 2011 census found that 514,068 persons spoke a language other than Irish or English in the home. Now there are 60,000 new Irish citizens since 2011, born in other countries, who are entitled to vote in the referendum this coming May.
To this end, I created graphics detailing the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission’s statement regarding the upcoming referendum, translated into various languages of the world. As you can see, it’s a work in progress. We’re working on stage 2. So if anyone doesn’t see their language represented, we’re encouraging people to submit their translation to alan@yesequality.ie

“Ahoy me hearties! Th’ openin’ up ‘o civil marryin’ to a pair o’ persons, without nay a bother as to they be men pirates or lady pirates, be a matter ‘o equality ‘n human rights.”
Ay Ay Captain Hoop!
Will spaghetti hoops be allowed to vote in the referendum?
..this should be in Klingon…I’ve heard loads of people say their partners were Klingons.
I threw a bass drum and snarl to their deaths for you.
human rights and equality commission?? – sounds like some liberal quango gravy train to me.
Searing insight there – not. Lol

Latin?
“So if anyone doesn’t see their language represented, we’re encouraging people to submit their translation”
Sounds like a potential recipe for disaster….
Google translate? Or is it just that I can’t understand the Gaeilge one at all?? Beautiful as the design is, the message is more important.
These designs are making me so nostalgic for Quark Xpress 4.
Vignette memories abound.
Classic Quark Red in a linear blend with Quark Green.
The Latvian one has a typo in it. And the wrong use of the hyphen.
….pedantiska
As someone who has lived here for 20 years, has dual UK / Italian citizenship and doesn’t see the need for another passport, it is a bit annoying that there are people who can’t speak English or Irish can vote in a referendum yet I can’t.
Surely with EU membership giving equal citizenship to all citizens residing in any member states this is a little bit unfair.
Why #MarRef when the referendum is in May. Surely it should be #MayRef (and don’t call me surely etc.)
Never mind, light dawns on empty head. #Mar(riage)Ref(erendum). D’Oh!
