High Craigton Farm, Glasgow

Formal identification of the remains, found at High Craigton farm on the outskirts of Milngavie, had not yet taken place, Police Scotland said in a statement on Wednesday night, but it was believed they may be those of Karen Buckley. Relatives were told of the discovery.
A 21-year-old man was detained by officers on Wednesday and police said they were “following a definite line of enquiry”. Early on Thursday morning they announced the arrest.

Peace and love to the family, a complete nightmare for them, there is a fund-raising page linked in this RTE report for anyone who wants to help financially. http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0416/694458-buckley-family/

On the news reporting, have you noticed that INM isn’t in pole position reporting this story? No secret “service level agreement” with the Scottish polis, unlike the back-scratching relationship in Ireland with the brass in the Phoenix Park.

Chances are forensics will turn up a date rape drug in the body. Horrific day for her family. RIP.

The fact that she left the club without her jacket and without telling her friends, completely out of character according to her friends.

    1. Spud1

I fear an attempt was made to burn the body to destroy evidence, as it’s being reported that ‘remains’ were found.
The police were asking locals in the area if bonfires were lit over the past few days.

Looks like the work of a psycho who had it planned. Who would randomly have such equipment available.

Or chemicals in a metal barrel. Fire personnel are at the scene.

            Is this not speculation?

You’re coming across as fairly ghoulish here.

          3. Lilly

Feel free to skip my comments. It’s up to the mods to decide if they’re ghoulish and delete accordingly, not you. Prissy much.

          4. Grouse

I don’t think ghoulishness is explicitly banned in the comment guidelines. It’s up to the mods to decide whether to delete comments, and up to everyone else to decide whether they find yours grotesque.

Apparently not as common or likely as you might assume.
“Quite honestly, alcohol is the No. 1 date rape drug,” said Mike Lyttle, regional supervisor for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Nashville crime lab. “Roofies are very rarely — if ever — seen in real life.”

Whether she was simply drunk or had her drink spiked, the worst she deserved was a hangover.

This is dreadful. Horrible creep, whoever the guy is. Women should not have to live in fear of being hunted.

          1. Don Pidgeoni

I’d rather be on my high horse than making wild Daily Mail style speculations about a woman who has been murdered. Roll on Miss Marple.

I can’t help but think about the friends that she was out with that night. I can’t even imagine what they must be going through. I think about how many times I’ve been out with friends and wandered off, or have had friends wander off with a few drinks on them and how lucky we are that no harm came to any of us. I hope they don’t blame themselves or hold themselves responsible for what happened.

  5. Mike

Not clear at all from reports I’ve seen if it was the lad she went home with that they arrested or another guy ??

      1. Milk Teeth

I though they questioned him but not as a suspect. Thats what the radio said yesterday at least.

  6. Ms Piggy

I’m afraid this comes as no surprise at this stage, but awful news nevertheless. Poor woman.

  7. BenTen

    Poor girl, RIP.

Just a note, the Scottish police were fairly class, they literally had half of the police in the country looking for her, you wouldn’t see the same quick reaction here, and definitely not on the same scale.

    1. Frilly Keane

And definitely not so quick to act

Incredible performance by the Glasgow police from the moment Karen’s friends raised the alarm they were on it.
      In full force.

      R.I.P. Karen
      I’m heartbroken for you
      And your family and friends.

RTE made more of the Mass in Cork last night. You’d swear we were still in the 1970s. A poor woman goes missing and all they can do is interview a load of mass goers as if to validate her chasteness or something. Weird stuff. And of course they got the old GAA mention in there too, all via the expertly solemn RTE reporter.

It’s as if tragic death is a vehicle for promotion of the local parish priest, GAA and TD. Weird little country.

    May she rest in peace.

    1. Joe the Lion

That all you have to say? A whole community attempts to express solidarity in a customary way with her poor family and you want to piss in their mouths? Shut up

        1. Joe the Lion

Not at all, just a bit too sneery. I get your point but feel it’s very inappropriate and poorly expressed

          1. Joe the Lion

I do, Lord, I do. But what about it ? I mean the singular reality it represents is that small town rural Ireland remains exactly as you describe for the most part. What parallel universe do you feel RTE should have presented to make us “look” more modern?

      1. Lilly

+ 1 A rural community was coming together to show live, solidarity and support for one of their own and all you can do is sneer at their mode of expression. Simetimes it is the thought – goodwill – that counts.

          1. Lilly

If they’d gone to interview people in the local pub, you’d have said they were bring disrespectful. I’ve little time for the church but solemnity was called for to echo the gravity of the situation. Mass is still where many rural communities converge when tragedy strikes.

    2. ivan

I’m inclined to agree with you. Now probably isn’t the time to be seen (speaking for myself) to ‘mock’ those who take strength and support from going to Mass or whatever, but certainly if an outsider looked at the coverage, I think there’d be a lot of ‘huh’ing going on….

Men should be chemically castrated at an early age to prevent most of humanities horrors.

  10. #Selfie Face

Terrible, worst nightmare. Poor woman life ended way before her time. Thoughts with her family.
