I’m not in Ireland to vote, but this kind of thing makes me a little worried for the yes side.

  2. Daisy Chainsaw

No supporters cunningly disguised as yes voters.

Anyone serious about voting yes knows not to take down MFM’s posters, irrespective of how irrelevant and offensive they are.

Agent Provocateur. .. that reminds me, must delete my browsing history.

Get that basque you’ve been promising yourself Mikey, you’ll be a long time dead.

It’s po-faced to criticise illegal, anti-democratic behaviour? These dickheads could be No supporters trying to discredit the Yes side because it certainly lends credence to any future claims by the No side that their election campaign was illegally undermined.

I think it’s the Yes side posing as the No side posing as the Yes side.

The real question is, how deep does this thing go?

I appreciate the fact that there are a lot of angry and upset members and friends of the LGBT community out there, but as a gay woman who is also personally offended by these posters I implore you to PLEASE stop cutting them down. This will only result in giving the No side ammunition against us and will ultimitely hurt our campaign for equality.

  4. the good helen

it will be very easy to identify them from this photo, i can’t imagine there are many people with black square faces walking around

  5. spud1

I saw a group of people putting up ‘No’ posters last night, and someone stopped their car to walk over and appear to give out / object to them putting them up…

I’ve changed my mind. Myself and my wife are voting No. You already have civil partnership. Marriage is for a man and a woman only. It’s our thing.

Get your own and call it something else like Garriage or Hommage.

He was either being sarcastic or it’s Wall Peller back with a vengeance.

I think it’s probably the former in this case.

  7. Eoghany

It’s hardly a massive crime, settle down everyone. They’re offensive posters, and I condone them being taken down. This is the first time posters have been taken down en masse during an election or referendum campaign, and I think that’s just testament to the depth of feeling against this filthy litter. Fine if they’re are relaying accurate info, but they’re not, they’re peddling blatant untruths, and hurting individuals in the process. Take em down!

    1. Rob_G

Someone could cut down ‘Yes’ posters using the exact same rationale; it would be equally wrong.

Democracy is for everyone, not just people that you happen to agree with.

    2. newsjustin

That’s right try to justify the anti-democratic, scumbag behaviour. That’s even worse than taking down posters really – the pathetic excuses.

      1. pedeyw

My only probelm is that this will reflect badly on the yes side. Frankly, I don’t think you should be allowed peddle lies on posters, I find lying on posters to be massively undemocratic.

    3. Paolo

So in each referendum or election, when there is a group that feels it is morally right, it is ok to interfere with the campaign of the opposition.

      That’ll be every election then.

      1. Zarathustra

… but then the actors in the stock photos will give out, and they’ll say that the posters are misrepresentative because they don’t have moustaches or googly eyes in real life.

  8. Jonny P

Is it illegal to cut down posters that are outside your house and return them to who put them up with a letter explaining why?

  9. Murtles

The irony of cutting down these posters in the name of equality.
Equality for everyone, it’s just that we should get more than ye.

  10. Nicelives

This is seriously stupid, is this the first referendum the idiot has lived through? this does not work well for the Yes side

  11. Alan Sherry

. A month ago I was firmly and certainly in the yes camp. The behavior of people like this (and this is not an isolated incident) is making more and more question that view and has me leaning back towards the no side.

    1. Medium Sized C

So you believe that gay people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because of posters being cut down?

    2. Irish Lass

Alan, how does this in any way affect your true feelings about whether gay people should be afforded the right to marriage?

  12. life boy

Quick, where’s Conor Pope, someone needs to clutch their pearls and scream shrilly about democracy.

  13. Dough Berman

I was going to vote No, but after seeing the sheer number of pearl-clutching, epsom-huffing flibbertigibbets who were ROCK SOLID Yes votes until the ungentlemanly conduct of the Yes campaign flung them headlong into the decorous and respectful arms of the No vote – I’ve switched to a Yes.
