when you’re arguing AGAINST Amnesty International, it’s time to reassess your life.

Also they’re filmed to look like voxpops but they’re obviously reading from a script. typical tacky and cheap piece from the far right.

  2. nottoputtoofineapointonit

wait wait wait just a second

the anti-choice lobby think they can win an argument on double standards?

time to stock up on popcorn and spare parts for the irony metre

“I too [squints at cue card] find this product and or service depol… deplim… dep-lor-ab-il and am outraged. Look at my mock indignation. You guys can tidy that up and throw a bit of a cutaway over it, aye? Nice one. I’ll send an invoice.”

nottoputtoofineapointonit beat me to it this time.

    Dear Broadsheet,
Please, please, PLEASE stop helping the right-wing loonies.
    I am Pro-Life, but I am ALSO Pro-Choice.

    The loonies are ANTI-CHOICE.

  5. ZeligIsJaded

    Camera was too high.

Last two speakers were givin it socks with the hand gestures.

Would have added a lot of weight to their argument I feel.

Without the hands, just sounded like gibberish

  6. Well that's that

From 0.11 seconds in I was convinced it was a parody. Is ProLife Ireland Who-Know-Who-stitute’s new puppet? Father and Mothers Matter been rested for now?

  7. jeremy kyle

After the marriage ref the same old heads will be doubling their efforts to smash any push to reform Ireland’s abortion laws.

  8. donkey_kong

i think they are right in their opinion on this one.

Amnesty isn’t what it once was.
They’ve changed direction and their showing in the abortion debate shows them to be a sham compared to the decent work they used to do.

    1. Well that's that

Follow up with 2 (seems reasonable) examples of how Amnesty International are ‘a sham’. Please prefix your answer with your definition of what a ‘sham’ is in term of a NGO. (10 marks)

Have to agree, perhaps Amnesty should put their focus on abortion in places like India that results in a some areas having a 5:4 ratio of boys to girls. I guess if they bring in abortion here Amnesty will have a lot less disabled people whose rights they can promote.

      1. Stephanenny

You mean like how they actually are doing? In actual fact doing like right now? On your way down off that horse you might find the time to google the difference between Amnesty International Ireland and Amnesty International India and Amnesty International the umbrella group.

Wouldn’t want you to simply swallow the complete codswallop spread by anti-choicers without engaging in a little critical thinking now would we?

As usual, the names of the sides is wrong. It’s anti choice and pro choice. Pro life is a part of the anti choice’s spin (as it has negative connotations). I’m pro abortion and pro life, only c***s are anti life. Of you would be so kind BS, use the right terms in future.

    1. AlisonT

How is killing your young pro Life? if you are only pro abortion up to a stage of development then please let us know what week you pick as your cut off point and become pro birth.

      1. munkifisht

Well the point is that’s not life, I don’t consider anything without a heartbeat or brain waves life. The so called pro life campaign is decidedly not pro life as recent cases have shown. They care nothing of the life of the mother, but being pro something is an old marketing trick as it has positive connotations.

        1. munkifisht

Sorry, I mean in my opinion and those who are pro choice’s opinion I think it would be generally accepted that a fetus without heartbeat or brainwaves not alive. The anti choice side have a contrary opinion.

          1. scottser

a foetus has a heartbeat at 6 weeks lad. not much else mind, but it’s got a heartbeat.

          2. well

The heartbeat argument is purely emotional. Even a fetus with anencephaly has a heartbeat.

        2. Rowsdower

But presumably you do consider something with a heartbeat and brain waves to be life then, which does occur after a certain number of weeks. Are you Pro-Choice at that stage?

      1. well

You don’t see the irony in lamenting group think while forcing your views down the throats of women who don’t want to be pregnant, rape victims, teenage girls , and women carrying babies that will be DOA, simply because you have a one size fits all morality handed to you by the church and reinforced by your likeminded peers?

        1. rotide

I don’t force my views down anyone’s throats actually. Unlike the comments here of course.

Personally I’m pro choice and in most of those examples I’m all for the option being availble.

It’s a difficult moral issue though and there are plenty who feel otherwise and every single one of those points (bar the incompatible with life one) can be argued on both sides very reasonably and logically.

The jump to labelling pro life types as Anti Choice is nothing more than spin akin to what the iona lads do every day.

          1. Stephanenny

No, it’s not. It’s combatting an existing spin. Anti-choice people term themselves pro-life and set themselves up as the opposition to pro-choice people – surely if they are pro-life and we oppose them then we must be anti-life, which is patently ridiculous. Consider what each side is actually fighting over – choice. You could also say we’re arguing over abortion but there are people who consider themselves anti-abortion but pro-choice. So personally I’d consider self styled “pro-life” people as being either anti-abortion or anti-choice, but certainly not pro-life.

        2. well

” in most of those examples I’m all for the option being availble.”

Well then you’re neither prolife or prochoice, you’re just pocking and choosing when women should be allowed an abortion based on how they got pregnant.

          1. rotide

Well done sherlock. I am indeed picking and choosing when women should be allowed have an abortion based on the circumstances

Now away with you, there’s crimes being commited right this second that need your mastermind touch.

          2. Stephanenny

Could you furnish us all with a naughty and nice list please?

What happens if a someone is in a set of circumstances you haven’t included in either side of the list? Will you meet with them personally to consider their case and then add it to the appropriate side of the list?

Do check it twice for us will you?

      2. Karl Monaghan

Because there’s no groupthink involved in the Irish Catholic Church with their diverse leadership (all white, male, educated the same, same religion, all supposedly celibate, all supposedly straight, all subscribing to the same morals) who don’t involve women or doctors when deciding if women are allowed to have health care.

        1. rotide

Wait, are you saying that everyone in the leadership of the catholic church is CATHOLIC?

ARE YOU KIDDING??? WHERES THE DIVERSITY.

          come on

        2. rotide

Apart from the diversity nonsense, the catholic chuch don’t get to decide whats legal and what isn’t anymore.

There is absolutely groupthink there and it’s no better than the groupthink around here.

          1. dereviled

            a) We voted for a Catholic constitution in 1937 and then we have referendums about the stuff that’s not cool so strap in.
            b) groupthink- a desire for conformity resulting in irrational or dysfunctional decisions
Sounds familiar. Remember all the private helicopters? Lol.
Broadsheet is non conformist in fairness and the comments are diverse.

  10. well
