What’s the issue exactly?
Mystified,
Ann seems surprised that the law she knew about might be enforced.
Not a law: bankster policy.
Not a dictionary: colouring book.
I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!

Can’t wait for the Jim Sheridan directed biopic. I hear Sean Penn is looking to play the lead. He’s committed to putting on the weight considering his acting will just be a reprise of his I Am Sam character.
Lol. So a charge we paid up until ’77 and every other country pays for local services is a bankster policy? Nice try Bertie. It really astonishes me that Fianna Fail types like you are promoting this nonsense at the time your ideologue in chief is on front of the banking enquiry. You lot seem to post the exact opposite of reality. Socialist policies like local property taxes are bankster policy. Gangster policies like buying elections by gutting local authorities incomes is good!
“pays for local services” – Keep up Miko, thats what they said when they were introducing the charge, they’ve since changed their mind.
Um…what did she expect? You can’t just decide what taxes you can and cannot deduct. Would she do the same for PAYE or USC??
CT, she was expecting a Nil return through write offs etc.
Ann, Chapter 4 of Part 41 TCA, (934) F details late filing fee surcharge ,934 (G) surcharge for failure to submit your LPT return. Google Revenue.ie or hire a tax consultant.
its revenue – there are always consequences of not doing what they want.
Sometimes they’ll waive fines and penalties if you cry over the phone and point out your previous regular “on time” payments. Trust me losing your dignity is definitely worth avoiding some of their fines.
one other thing – sometimes they send out lists of breakdowns like shown and they give everything on the list while in a specific case , not everything will apply.
If you fail to collect VAT, would you be surprised by ‘consequences’?
“Other possible consequences of continued non-compliance include the withholding of Tax Clearance Certification, while chargeable persons (generally self-employed persons or companies) may also incur a LPT generated surcharge on Income Tax, Corporation Tax or Capital Gains Tax Returns.”
from a side menu link on the page you linked to in the post.
“Surcharge due to non compliance with your LPT requirements”.
This one. Penalties have to be legislated for. This is the case with late payment of a lot of taxes. And there are various formulas that have been introduced over the years to “encourage prompt compliance”.
I think Ann is saying she wasn’t aware that any “third party” penalties had been applied to landlords that let their property. Which is quite an imposition.
Thanks for clearing that up
This surcharge applies when a person doesn’t comply with their personal LPT obligations. It isn’t a secret.
However, they often get it wrong, so if she did pay her LPT that surcharge comes off (but the one for submitting her tax return late doesn’t).
Her personal LPT obligations have nothing to do with her company tax obligations. They are separate legal entities with separate accounts.
Is she supposed to be deducting LPT at source for employees? If not, then perhaps she’s a sole trader and not a ‘company’.
