Oh.

Bob Coggins writes:

Already in its 4th year, and having received feedback from over 1,200 third level students nationwide in this year’s survey, our results continue to be the most comprehensive and accurate survey of third level students….

Above is a preview of this year’s results showing that 49.96% (50%) of students have considered dropping out of third level college or have actually dropped out.

41.7% considered dropping out, 8.24% dropped out The top three reasons for their consideration include mental health (24%), the course wasn’t what they were expecting (23.3%) and financial reasons (18.5%)….

That STI check statistic is a bit terrifying. Get yerselves checked out you dirty dirty students!!

Wait, the question: “How do you access content?” – does that refer to material relating to your course, or just in general? I lecture and would be shocked if these statistics were correct for course material.

‘Content’ in this sense refers to anything read, listened to, watched, laughed at or generally ‘consumed’ through the plethora of media devices available to persons in this digital age of media convergence and multi-screening….. I’m sure you had a student or two gasp when you asked them to read an actual buke! :)

I guess it’s part of the language of digital / social media marketers….. these days questions tend to be ‘what device do you use’ (EG Ans: Ph, Desktop, Tablet or X?) as opposed to old questions about ‘what medium you consumed’ (EG Ans: TV, Radio or X?).
For example, these days TV can be consumed on any device, so the marketers want to know where these tykes spend their ‘screen time’.

      I’ll get the sick bags!!

Aha, makes much more sense. I’m writing a bibliography at the moment and would be worried it would all be for nothing just because relatively few of the references are available via phone, or at least would much more cumbersome to access via phone rather than laptop or desktop.
….hmmm..I may need to chat with the students anyway…

        cheers!

Ah, the good oul ‘mental health’ catch all when these celtic cubs aren’t happy when they reach adult hood.

They should learn from the Dubliners and change it to a ‘disability’ so they ride free buses around town.

Ah here, 93% not checked for STIs! Ye lazy feckers. Aren’t they free for students? What I wouldn’t give to not have to pay

Wait… 50% changed course, but 2/3 thought the course description was an accurate representation, and would choose the same course again?

1261 is a pretty low response rate considering the total number of 3rd level students in ireland.. no?
