The Cirkelbroen Bridge

The newly opened Cirkelbroen Bridge across the Christianshavn canal in Copenhagen, Denmark designed by Olafur Eliasson.

With a nod to the city’s nautical history in the form of tall mast like structures, the five circular platforms of the structure are designed as a meeting place and viewing place as well as a crossing point.

i was there just a couple weeks ago. i love cities like this where they really value design, not just function.

I left Copenhagen a few weeks back. That area has no bridge in handy waking distance so it actually realy needed.

The worst thing about spending time in other functioning citites in Europe in coming back to Dublin. I like my city but it doesn’t ever really work properly and there rarely seems to be a project that just has human enjoyment or non-profiting practicality as it’s end goal.

Anyway, screw you Copenhagen and Amsterdam etc, you mght have good roads and bike-lanes, but we have king crisps and bumpy scenery… *cries*

We also have Clontarf walk, howth, Phoenix park, Stephens green and merrion square, iveagh and botanic gardens , the Dun Laoghaire piers, Luas, Dart, Wicklow on our doorstep,

    But it was designed by Santiago Calatrava who also designed a bridge for Buenos Aires. But it looks like he just changed the measurements and took his fee for an identical design… couldn’t be arsed thinking up something new for Dublin.
    
    The forget the Liffey boardwalks, although a lot of the nice congregation areas in Dublin become the domain of the junkies and beggars.

low amount of public seating in Dublin compared to mainland cities is striking.

    Pleasantly surprised while in Kerry earlier this year and the amount and condition of public toilets. Although one toilet near Valentia island that did advertise itself as ‘award winning’ was definitely not as nice as others in the area.
    
    There is obviously some shady dealings in the world of toilet judging.. “a nice hefty brown envelope and your public toilet can get number 1 this year… WTF.. your sick you know that.. last place is where you are… LAST!!”
