I don’t get the 2nd pic. Was there no disabled badge?
So that 2nd car looked disabled friendly/adapted to you, eh?
Please don’t make normative statements about the validity of someone’s disability. Badges can be issued to those who don’t have any outward physical disability, such as a heart condition, asthma etc.
From – http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/traffic_and_parking/disabled_persons_parking_card.html
“In June 2011, following a review of the Disabled Parking Scheme, SI 239/2011 Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 introduced changes to the Scheme which included:
– Changes to the medical eligibility criteria to focus more on the level of mobility impairment
– New measures to reduce the fraudulent use of permits.”
Oh yeah, you also need a Primary Medical Certificate to get a disabled parking badge. (from http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/transport_and_disability/tax_relief_for_disabled_drivers_and_disabled_passengers.html)
“A Primary Medical Certificate confirms you are severely and permanently disabled and:
Are completely or almost completely without the use of both legs or
Are completely without the use of one of your legs and almost completely without the use of the other leg to the extent that you are severely restricted as regards movement in your legs or
Are without both hands or both arms or
Are without one or both legs or
Are completely or almost completely without the use of both hands or arms and completely or almost completely without the use of one leg or
Have the medical condition of dwarfism and serious difficulties of movement of the legs”
Cup if tea?
The wife’s mother (I can’t use my and mother in the same sentence when referring to that woman) suffers of drama-queenitis and she has one of those cards. I wonder if having a relative that is a doctor has anything to do with it.
Gas
Any person who might be prone to such a severe asthma attack, that a disability tag is required should not be driving a vehicle of any kind.
You can get disabled parking tags without being a driver. They’re person specific, not car specific. Otherwise a driver with a passenger with a disability might have to park in a regular spot causing serious difficulties for the passenger.
What are you prattling about Dave? Do you need a glass of water?
There’s a picture of a dipstick parking in a disabled spot I’m surprised you missed it, It’s the 2nd picture in this article.
So tell me, when you look at the picture, does that 2nd car look disabled friendly/adapted to you, eh?
Easy Dave, we don’t know all the facts. Just sit down and breathe….
What kind of disability are you talking about? There are literally thousands of debilitating conditions and many many different ways that they affect people. My friend had a disc for rheumatoid arthritis and she had a coupe that was an automated. Doesn’t look disability friendly but it worked for her. The low level of the seats did suck but it was the only automatic she could afford.
Also worth noting she was abused by random strangers on multiple occasions because they didn’t have a clue what they were on about and assumed a young woman without a wheelchair or a mobility aid couldn’t possibly have a disc and didn’t bother to look for one.
Dave ? Dave Dipstick is it ?
Unless your an engineer, who are you to say that car is not used by someone with a valid disability ticket.
Or are all disabled people – in your eyes – confined to having to drive ancient automatic Jap-import Micra’s or something.
A good friend of mine is wheelchair bound and has a valid pass. On the windscreen of his Porsche. And they fupp not ?
Galwaytt, Why the ad hominem attack?. Seeing as your friend may have experienced the frustration of finding his designated spot taken by an careless bottomhole, you would support the concept that abled bodied people should not park in disabled spaces?
The disabled person might not be the owner of the car. I quite regularly used one of those spots when chauffeuring my super-elderly grandmother around.
we cant tell but we must assume I suppose
Oooppps
Me 99’er….
So you can’t be disabled and have a fancy sports car? Is that what we are being asked to believe here?
So I understand. Load of poo.
Asthma? Seriously? That would qualify around half a million people for the badge.
No, severe asthma or respiratory impairment is what qualifies you for a badge. Funnily enough different conditions have different degrees of severity. It’s almost like you don’t have all the facts isn’t it?
Dundrum Centre is extremely disorientating, in car or out of car. Because it’s such a kip I would actually excuse that bad parker but ban him/her from ever returning…for their own good and well-being.
Always look for the disc. And if sharing a picture of such an alleged dickhead online maybe specify that there wasn’t one or include the vacant dashboard in the shot.
Can Anyone help Digs? He doesn’t seem to be able to determine if that 2nd car look disabled friendly/adapted ?
I’m a physiotherapist who works with people with physical disability. I see wheelchairs of all kinds every day, I regularly assess how people get in and out of cars (did it this morning as it happens) and have written letters in support of people getting discs in the past.
I assure you that there is no way for a professional (let alone some random dude on the Internet using “common sense”) to tell, from the car alone, whether or not the person driving it or their passenger was entitled to park in that spot.
So in your professional opinion, would you recommend a convertible as good type of vehicle adaption for the disabled?
Also seeing as you would have a greater understanding of the frustrations of disabled people when they come across a reserved parking spot being occupied by an enabled persons car, ‘what do you think should be done to reduce such annoyances again?
See your misunderstanding lies with your phrase “the disabled”. “The disabled” are not a group of physically, medically and mentally identical people. People with disabilities don’t all have the same problems. Whether or not I would advise for or against a particular car for a particular individual depends on the individual’s strengths and weaknesses. Not on a simple toss up between yes they do or no they don’t have a disability.
Also understanding the frustration people with disabilities have doesn’t do anything to help me stop this happening. To do that I’d have to understand the people who take the spots they don’t need. And I simply do not understand how anyone can be such a careless asshole.
Thanks for your reply.
It is my belief and I accept I could be wrong, that the 2nd picture is evidence of a careless bottomhole.
For enough. In my book it’s a strong indicator of a careless bottomhole but certainly not proof of one.
Waiting now for (our) Jeremy Kyle to open the doors and welcome ‘Mister Careless Bottomhole’ onto the stage.
God I hate the Dundrum town centre.
What’s the deal with the disabled parking and the busybodies?
If I happened to be special needs and I found someone peering near my car to see my special needs sticker, I’ll give them a special kick up the fong.
I’d^
Seriously, the spots are always free.. And if there’s two or three of them, you’d hardly expect a sudden assemblage of special needs people arriving out of nowhere together, Adare Co. Limerick excluded. haw haw
“special needs” is not an adjective.
And no, they’re not “always free”. On multiple occasions I’ve been driving with people with disabilities who have had to wait by themselves in the car while I did their errands because they couldn’t walk the distance or get to their chair because some git thought exactly like you. Do youhave any idea how humiliating that is?
I’d say I don’t live where you live.
Their allocated spots – 2/3/4 of them at the front of every building, shop, gym etc are always free down this way. All the time. Free. I still don’t park in them, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one being used.
The gits you mention up your way could be disabled. Unless you’re checking for the stickers and you didn’t see any, but then again, I think people should mind their own business… and that applies to your friend who was abused by random strangers.
Wannabe traffic wardens everywhere.
I am checking for stickers and they don’t have them. And this has happened in places with up to 10 reserved spots.
And they’re not “always free” unless you’re committed to spending literally all of your time in a car park and never ever sleeping.
