      It’s brilliant.

I’ll not have you tykes knockin’ Cannon cinema releases or straight to video movies ! As a kid going through my teens in the 80s Cannon was a Godsend of an escape from the misery of wet damp west of Ireland ! :)

Lifeforce is messed up, but it’s classic messed up and Invaders From Mars to give it its full title is an enjoyable b-movie trash fest :)

I actually rewatched Masters of the Universe the other day. It’s awful, but it is fun. Also, it’s amusing to contrast early 20’s Courtney Cox arguring with a muppet against her later career.

It was mostly harmless shyte, Charles Bronson and Chuck Norris kicking ten shades out of the same stuntmen, Asylum doing the exact same with naff CGI now.

They occasionally strived for respectability as well. Adaptations of Dickens, D.H. Lawrence (which turned out as you’d expect) and Shakespeare.
They produced films for the likes of Godard, Norman Mailer and John Frankenheimer; as well as funding Jodorowsky’s first film. They funded that Barfly film about Bukowski and that Powaqqatsi film.

They actually managed to produce some films that critics like. John Cassavetes’ Love Streams for example.
They funded 2 films by Andrei Konchalovsky which were very well received critically (Runaway Train and Shy People.) Ironically, it took Konchalovsky’s move to the more respected Warner Bros for him to make Tango and Cash.

Cannon also produced a Neil Jordan film (Company of Wolves) and a film called Street Smart, which garnered mixed reviews but gave Morgan Freeman his big break (he got an oscar nomination for his role in the film.)

Speaking of oscar nods, Jon Voight and Eric Roberts got nominations for Runaway Train.

ok ok if you’ve read this far, thanks for reading. Trivia-gasm over.
