Terrifying to think that a news corporation of that size and influence can be so blatant in its omission of detail…

“She was second in command of the rebel forces during the 1916 Easter Rising against British rule – a bloody revolt that lasted five days and left 132 British soldiers and police dead.”

Sinn Fein today has little relationship with Arthur Griffiths Sinn Fein.
Griffith was happy to keep the monarchy which is an anathema for Gerry and the lads.
It was only useful as an organization when Dev took it over.

Markievicz was also a member of the ICA, Fianna Fail, the IRB amongst others.

If I remember correctly, she executed a british prisoner in cold blood. What a Heroine. In it for the kicks and to upset dad

If westminster could offload NI to RoI without the political fallout from EU/US they would give us the hospital pass straight away (€15 billipn subvention per year of the books)

The 1916 “heroes” prancing around Dublin while tens of thousand lived in poverty. What’s there to celebrate?

A good chunk of the prancers were in the Irish Transport & General Workers’ Union militia, the Irish Citizen Army, including Constance Markievicz. Most of the Citizen Army hadn’t got a stiver.

I would suggest you read some books (any books at this stage, to be honest). But, particularly if you were interested in the social composition of the Irish republican forces in 1916, there are a number of books you could try; oral histories are particularly good, I find.
