Is it just me or do the newspapers increasingly seem to be bringing yesterday’s news?
I know it’s inevitable, but today’s papers look like they belong in yesterday.

But seriously, seriously…
Haven’t ‘Newspapers’ had their day?
Paper Newspapers, that is.
Yeah, so some people haven’t got Internet access.
We can kill them.*
*Who amongst would rather die than not have Internet access? We’d be doing them a favour if you think about it.

Internet, they have that computer now?

My trained monkey has not got the hang of typing yet. How big was the stick you used to train yours with

I know you were drunk but I will answer with my thoughts anyway.
Judging by sales figures, newspapers do seem to have had their day. This is a shame as the better newspapers, with more in depth, better written articles, will go by the wayside, and we’ll be left with the likes of The Journal and so on.
We’ll eventually be left in a scenario where our investigative journalism will be solely the reserve of document dumps from whistleblowers. Good luck sifting through that (or getting anyone from The Journal to do it if they can’t cog off actual journalists).

I certainly think so, Elliot, but I’m hoping there will be new formats for investigating and reporting; I believe newspapers were always propaganda tools (or even counter-propaganda) of some sort but we liked to hold them to high standards.
And much of it is just entertainment.
What we have now, with the internet, is ready access to a world of academia ; )

I agree with Deluded
We’re going back in time that’s all with the newsprint industry

For instance, I know a lot of people subscribe to magazines, journals and periodicals. It remains to be seen if the hard copy remains popular.

Even better. At least they’re referring to USC as a tax now, because the party line of “but we haven’t raised taxes for the past few years” was irritating.
I know this decision will be based on getting votes in the election but it seems rather silly that they’re probably cutting USC while pushing new flawed charges like IW
SERIOUS, oh yes…I can be…

Does anyone have any idea how much a 2% drop in the USC would cost the Govt?
Siptu give a figure of €3.7 billion from USC in 2014 and project €4.2 billion for this year.
I couldn’t crunch the rate structure right now, sorry…
Cheers for that!
Ah- here we go…
“With Finance Minister Michael Noonan stating he has €750m ear-marked for all tax cuts in the October budget, a USC reduction of 1% would cost €269m in 2016, and a 2% move would come in at €540m next year.”
