Skerries, Co Dublin.
So good they named it Skerries.
David Diebold writes:
Just 25 minutes north from Dublin city by train, a town of islands and castles; harbours and windmills; the turf-smoke tang of cobbled backstreets; salt air and seals, trawlers chugging to sea and the steam of your breath in the air under an azure November sky. The music is by Bryan Michael Mills from the movie soundtrack to Slow West (2015) – reminding me that Skerries is the only place on the east coast of Ireland where you can sit in a pub and watch the sun set over the sea. How about a pint?
Better than Bray, some say.

i have a fondness for ollie’s, in fairness.
A fondness for Ollie’s what?
ollie’s pints. have you never slurped on ollie’s creamy head?
Get in there and have a goo at his Christmas decorations. He’s gone mad this year.
an order to go the pub? yes’m, right away!
the snug is fab but ollies.. no just no
Couldn’t disagree more, both places are amazing in their own respect. Both cater for different clientele extremely well, great food & drink and great entertainment.
thats why its a democracy agree to disagree :p
Don’t mind if I do: I’ll be supping in Carlingford but fondly reminiscing about multiple drunken nights in Stoops followed by a late one in Shenanigans. Say hi to that Big Red One from me
Hurrah for my town :)
Yes, Ollie has gone all out this year. It’s quite the spectacle.
Pictures for Broadsheet, please!
Skerries is sound out. I was privileged to learn a lot about the North County in the mid-90s – for good and for ill – and what I learned is that these baronies contain a myriad things to do and see. *Kisses fingers, pours out 40 in Man O’War car park*
I really like Skerries.
I’ve never been. I was in Howth once or twice. And Clontarf once. Much prefer Dalkey.
It’s a nice spot, especially on a nice day. Ardgillan Castle is worth the visit too, if you enjoy a good walk.
Actually, was up at newbridge house over the weekend, thats a sweet spot too.
Dalkey is horrific
Ah Dalkey is grand if you have money, but then anywhere is grand if you have money I suppose.
Dalkey is up its bottom.
I like Howth. It’s no Limerick obviously, but it’s nice enough.
Anne, they have a pier in Howth.
Not much else.
You worry me.
There’s billions of places that are better than the lovely town of limerick.
Buy a bike.
Dalkey is great too but it’s a very different place, much more suburban feel. It’s missing McDonaghs badly.
Never been to Skerries, was all enthused to see & explore until I saw this blah vid!
Dalkey, Monkstown, Dun Laoire & Sandymount are all magnificent-supported by beautiful villages. Bray’s coastal walks are stunning too.
Been marching up Dalkey Hill for 4 decades & it will never grow old…

Far be it from me to question your fitness levels but it definitely shouldn’t take forty years to climb Dalkey Hill
Ah you cheeky boy Bertie!
It’s nice but a bit far away
Is that the local swimming pool?
Depends where you’re calling from.
It’s a very family orientated kind of place and i love it for that. It’ has a happy buzz.

Can I sum up all the comments…
It’s a beautiful place, destroyed by those who live there.
I’d love to live there, but no way am I gonna kill someone first..
Okay, I might, in a blink…
