Save The Flea

A challenge more daunting than Xmas itself.

Sharon writes:

Not sure how you work but we would dearly love your help. The Dublin Flea Christmas Market was booked into operate from the John Player Factory [South Circular Road]  11th-13th Dec.

With 10 days the landlord after an article in TheJournal.ie under presumed pressure from NAMA has withdrawn permission, which we received in writing 3 months ago. We need major help getting a plea out to the City to find a new home for us asap.

We have 110 stalls booked in and this is their livelihood for Christmas. Would very much any help you could give us getting the word out.

What would be the rationale behind the ‘presumed pressure from NAMA’, as a matter of interest? Premumably, they would want the developer to be earning as much revenue as possible from the site.

I hope you find a new venue, best of luck : )

    I’d be hopping mad (sorry).
Was looking forward to visiting the old JP Theatre – hope the decision is reversed.

They received the decision three months ago?

My suggestion is Herberton Road in Rialto, its all new properties but they look like they could do with a boost and its on a luas line

Sounds like you should be entitled to an injunction forcing the landlord to let you use it as promised, unless the use as a market was illegal.

Try the F2 centre in Rialto.

They have a big hall but also other breakout rooms, catering, free wifi, underground parking as well as being on the Luas line. They will have a small Christmas fair of their own this weekend.
But there is also some empty shop space on the square that was to be used as an enterprise space as well.

We were planning on taking the little one when it opened. That’s a real shame. Best of luck with the new venue.

Nasty thing to happen with just about a weeks notice. Really am sorry to hear that.

Old Irish Liquidators store on the Belgard Road and Merchants Market on East Wall are both now vacant.

Really sorry to hear that I live close by and was planning on bringing my kids. My dad was also coming as he had a summer job in the factory in the early 70’s when he was in collage. Best of luck finding a new venue, if I had a 2000ft wear house it would certainly be yours.

I don’t think that decision was NAMA influenced

I’d say some of your locals objected

    I would a gone meself
‘Till I saw you use X mas

    Hate da’
Its probably one of the laziest words I have ta’live with
