From top: Independent TD Mick Wallace; Claire Daly and Mick Wallace at Shannon Airport in July 2014

[Mick Wallce] had been fined €2,000 on two charges of breaching airport by-laws during a protest at Shannon Airport in July last year but has not paid the fine.

Mr Wallace was allowed to drive to his home near Clontarf Garda Station to collect clothes and was then driven to Limerick.

        Hello Saint Paul. 2 questions.
What do you think is wrong with this site?
        What sites would you recommend?

    1. Zuppy International

Facts would suggest that it his continuing opposition to the unlawful War Machine operating out of Shannon Airport that has led to his arrest.

      1. Bobby

He can oppose it all he likes. Being in contempt of court is not an act of opposing US military use of Shannon. It’s saying that he doesn’t recognise the courts role in society.

        1. Zuppy International

The so-called Courts in this land are the domain of the criminal bankers and sit in contempt of the people.

          1. Zuppy International

Do your own research on what’s happening: Castlebar is but one example: Registrars who think they’re judges, Gardaí assaulting people inside ‘court’; High Court judges contradicting another (Murphy/Noonan), the wholescale fraud of ‘Rateable Value’ to gain jurisdiction in the circuit court for cases that should be heard in the high court. etc etc…

            None of this is ‘news’…

Maybe you’re right. With the corrupt clowns not resigning and certainly not being arrested, going to jail for what you believe n becomes a badge of honour.

Well I guess he and Clare Daly are the only people in the entire nation with the guts and conviction to actually make a stand against Irish neutrality being abused and compromised so the US can try to get WW3 started….with anyone!!! We’re a ripe target for the terror due to what goes on at Shannon. If we suffer a terror attack I doubt anyone will be critical of Mick and Clare actions.

    1. ReproBertie

The only way we are even slightly a target for terror is through stunts like this highlighting the US reliance on Shannon.

    2. Charley

Coveney wants too buy some jet fighters, suppose foreign aid has bought enough for central Africa and the Air corps have got none to play with.

    1. Rob_G

Maybe he should have just paid the fine and not gone to jail at all.

Or not endangered people’s lives by wandering onto the runway in the airport in the first place.

    1. Neilo

Also, must say it’s a ludicrous piece of theatre to jail a privacy-adverse TD two weeks before Christmas. Have they no idea of the Irish Times opinion piece consequences?

  2. Eoin

So if we just keep quiet about Shannon and don’t highlight it with stunts like this, then terrorists, somehow, won’t notice Shannon being used by the US? Pretty funny.

  3. Charley

They could have deducted the fine from his Dail wages but the dopes decided to give him a nice day of media exposure instead. Most people are wary of Shannon’s use by the US military and the cack-handed handling of this by the Gardaí draws attention to this breach of Irish neutrality

  4. Sunset Boulevard

That’s a classic!! So if everyone could keep schtum about Shannon! Don’t tell anyone the yanks are using it and we’ll all be fine! Phew, glad that’s sorted!

  5. Tish Mahorey

Not to worry lads and lassies. There’ll be some Finners slammed up soon enough.

Espesh if they the lose the elections. We’ll go hunting for them in trucks. Round them up and stick them in the Curragh. Yehoo.

  6. ReproBertie

    OK, let me rephrase that.

Despite how much the media might like to pretend otherwise, we are not a target for Isis. The only thing that could even raise us to a potential target is stunts like this which highlight the US reliance on Shannon (not their use of Shannon which is common knowledge) and the laughable security in Shannon. Even if they did decide that this made us some how worth targeting the intelligence services (Irish and others) are all over any likely suspects in Ireland so it would come to nothing.

    1. Nigel

The US using Shannon doesn’t make us a target, but the people objecting to it do. That’s adorable,

      1. ReproBertie

That’s not what I said. The US use of Shannon is common knowledge but we’re not a target. The protests won’t make us a target. The protests do highlight the reliance that US has on Shannon and the lack of security but, while that might draw attention to us, it still won’t make us a target.
