Apropos [John] Moynes’ limerick today [about the new campaign by The Irish Developoment Authorty’ to lure emigrants back ‘home to work’] some of IDA’s previous work [1980s and early 1990s] as mentioned in the comments….Let’s face it. It was simpler times.

looking at that map graphic, we’ve shrunk a fair bit since…
“People are to Ireland as oil is to Texas”
A resource to be economically exploited… ?
We like to bury them (state funeral optional), wait for them to rot and then exhume them repeatedly to general delight.
I’m no fuel.
oil agree with that
Very slick there scottser.
Go on Hoop!
Brilliant :)
Actually those ads were good to see for some of us who lived and worked abroad and who were taking stick because of the PIRA’s ” activities “.
“Republic of Ireland”? That is not the official name of the state – according to the Constitution, It is Ireland. Surprised the IDA use the term “Republic of Ireland”.
To distance the state from what was going on up North, presumably.
To distinguish themselves from the north so investment was in the Republic. While Ireland is the official name, the country is described, legally as the republic and so it is valid. These ads were also aimed at foreign investors, and the UK;’s legal name for Ireland is the Republic of Ireland.
