Switch over to the new X-Files
Tonight.
RTÉ, Montrose, Donnybrook, Dublin 4.
From top: Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Fianna Fáil leader Michaél Martin, Labour leader and Tanaiste Joan Burton and Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams arrive for the Leaders’ Debate on RTÉ 1 at 9.35pm.
Out of picture: AAA/PBP/, Greens, Soc Dems, Independent Alliance.
Decent whistle on MM, in fairness.
More as we get it.

Hard to challenge cartel when new parties excluded from 3 of 4 televised debates. The revolution clearly won't be televised. #leadersdebate

Sickens me they can get away with this.
The shinners will get top slot someday…that’ll soften the Montrose cough.
Get away with what?
Anyone visiting this island and sitting in a hotel room tonight will be under the impression that that’s the four choices for the voting public on Friday…no mention of any smaller parties or indos…thats my point.
Fair enough. I would be happy with a debate with only those who could lead a government but point taken.
Not sure how in the hell you could have independents there and actually moderate the debate. Plus there’s so many new little parties like direct democracy, united people ref so where to draw the line would be an issue.
This debate is muck though!
True…awful poo altogether.
Miss ya in Fair city, hope all is good…!!
Cheers wha’
Adding a link to a Russia Today article seems a bit click baitish. Any chance you could add another so it’ll be fair and balanced ; )
Jaysis gerry..going after Miriam….car crash stuff
I liked the “Who is Senator Cahill?”
That was hysterical
In fairness to the bloke he is doing better than limerick. Damage might have been already done though
Enda digging a hole on USC , woeful stuff
None of these guys are covering themselves with any glory.
it’s a bad state of affairs when Michael Martin is only one being in any way coherant.
In fairness, Lord Adams of Andytown is getting on a little and the memory isn’t quite what it was. The poor crathur can’t even remember if he was in the IRA.
The new X files have been pretty poor apart from the one with Kumail Nanjiani. That one was a classic.
What they need is someone to rewrite all of Chris Carter’s scripts
Micheal’s hair is getting away from him
Like a wet cue ball rolled around a barbers floor
hahaha, nice.
Haha!
The real sinister fringe.
Remind me who these lot are again?
I love this stuff .
Miriam is very poor
Asks Joan a question
Joan goes about answering
Gerry interupts
Miriam says: ‘let Michael speak’
This is insanely bad, call up Claire Byrne now.
Also the creaking is a joke, even TV3 have higher production standards
The boyfriend muted the telly a few times over the creaking and told me to stop moving my foot against the wooden chest.. the cheek of him.
I said it’s not me, it’s that cheap stage RTE are using.
Another ominous thing was Joan who kept smiling at the camera every time it zoomed in on her.
If that doesn’t give you nightmares I don’t know what would.
Seriously creeping smile from her when the camera zoomed in on her. But in fairness, kinda strange camera action going on at times.. zooming into ‘leaders’ when anther ‘leader’ was talking. RTE are for the birds.
The fupping birds wouldn’t bother with um.
They’re saying Joan did well.. She was fupping brutal. Asked about the lack of mental health services in the country, she said she’s talking to people on the ground and she understands the trauma people are going through from suicide, and people are saying the young people need sports facilities and good schools and what about Gerry who went to America for an operation? Brutal.
Better than her previous appearances, but still brutal. And the only reason she performed better was that she stayed quiet for longer.
Your fella’s not the brightest is he?
Mind you, can’t argue with you on Joan’s gurning.
Yeah
Like
I know we shouldn’t expect much from her
But still
You’d think she’d have lashed into it
Like leave nothing behind
She’s done
She knows it
So with a 100k + guaranteed for life sorted
Why didn’t she just go for it
I’m pretty insulted by her tbh
I’d a’ just gone for it
Maybe she was always an empty shirt
Sometimes without thinking, I start reading your comments like poetry, until I realise there is no poem.
Yup, Joan’s finished, & obscurity for Kelly would be very satisfying.
Strange how RTE are saying Enda & Joan did best, with Michaél & Gerry doing badly…or is it strange. Agenda? RTE? Noooo.
If you are in any way excited about an Irish election, you are either working for RTE or a politician. Everybody else has no excuse. You should be embarrassed if you watch that program expecting to learn anything.
If you do not know who to vote for by now you should be put on a boat and sent out to sea.
Man I wish I was as intelligent as you
So do I.
This is good craic now
And the biggest loser tonight? Miriam O’Callaghan
This is surely Miriam’s last hosting of such an important debate?
I sincerely hope so.
Herself and the ex McGurk were well matched. Both so dense that even light can’t escape.
RTE should be renamed the “Royal Television Establishment, it has lost all
credbility and respect after their failure to mention on their early bulletins
last Saturday that there was to be a large protest demonstration in Dublin
What else do they censor and unreport, how come they have not aired anything
about Noonan and the allegations made by Wexford Barrister Gary O’Halloran
Lets get a National Campaign going to abolish the licience fee paid to them.
Seriously
Did ye all see Edna use a cog note for his 30 second pitch?
This is the shyte you’re voting for with Fine Girls
saw that too, shocking stuff
I wonder if his own spinners have given up on him at this stage
the other thing I saw in him was the feigned “sorry I’m having difficulty hearing you, could you repeat the question please (to buy me more time to process your question)” body language throughout….wondering there’s no way he was being fed thru an earpiece, no surely not…
Matt Mc Carthy is superb and a gentleman.
Missed it damn… bummer…. was busy havin’ a ball hai! :P

Of the four of them, Michael Martin is the only one you could describe as a “strength” for their individual parties. FG, Labour and SF (in particular) would all see a big boost to support if they some of the obvious alternatives in place.
Which is ironic, given that Martin was notoriously weak and indecisive as a Minister. The man could barely make up his mind about what he wanted for lunch.
urgh .. so whatever happens, the next five years will be more of the same no matter whos in charge. may as well go with Sinn Fein then, just for the chaos factor. we know what we’re gettin with the others coz theyve all had a terrible craic of the whip, may as well give a new crowd a shot. see if we can get a full suite of fupp ups. least itll do away with IW.
To say nothing of foreign direct investment and the Special Criminal Court. Syriza with a sociopathic streak and the paramilitary expertise to back it up.
And Shatter, Noonan and that moron Charlie Flanagan are the lads for all that?
Give over would ya
In fairness, that is not true. FG have never served two terms in a row.
That’s no defence of FG, btw, just pointing an important difference between ff and fg past performance. A consecutive term is a big deal.
No matter how hard you wish it were true, you’re wasting your time labelling me as a Fine Gael supporter. At least constitutional nationalism’s conception of justice does not embrace the kangaroo court and – if lucky – exile and a punishment beating.
Kangaroo Court?
Could that be any different from what Noonan was doing off his own fat bat in Health …
Leaving a child in the care of an abuser!?!?!
At the personal request of the abuser ?!?!!
Michael Noonan is as familiar with rogue and risky behaviour as anyone else in the coming elections
Your whataboutery cuts no ice with me. If there’s a legal case to answer, the outgoing Minister for Finance will have to deal with it. It is the precise opposite of ‘community policing’ .
Anyone catch Kenny admitting that it was in fact him who appointed John McNulty?

Ah, I see BS has made a post about it.
You need perk up your ears mate!
Oh wait… soz :)
Indeed they have, Fergus. Cronyism is a very sordid business.
