Ha. No, sorry. Irish people in general just seem to be very pessimistic. Can’t be good for the nation’s mental health. While Americans overdo the positivity, it kind of becomes reinforcing, so you do feel better. Better than the other extreme anyway.
I respectfully disagree. I think Irish are pretty self-deprecating, but don’t actually believe it at all. We’re actually fairly fond of ourselves. And I think Americans are actually fairly cynical and distrusting – you just need to scratch the fake veneer to bring it out.
