Fisherman Lance Burgos, kayak fishing at Lake Fausse Point State Park in Louisiana, snags something unusual with his hand line.
Wait for it.
Shore Thing
atA documentary featuring Jon Hynes and Sean Cahill’s 1,500km and 39-day kayak around Ireland last summer.
Cian Walsh writes:
“Broadsheet published a link last summer as Jon and Sean were attempting to paddle around Ireland starting from the Old Head of Kinsale.”
“They returned to the Old Head 39 days later, having survived huge Atlantic swells and covered in blisters. The trip was self-supported so Jon and Sean carried everything, including food and camping gear, in their kayaks.”
Fair play in fairness.

Long-distance kayaker Clyde Barendse
Sarah Kelly writes:
This man (top and above) is currently circumnavigating Ireland in a kayak and deserves a big round of applause! (and a cuppa tea!).
Clyde Barendse is from South Africa and came to Ireland for the first time 3 weeks ago. Upon arrival he took part in the Liffey Descent Race, and then set his sights on a circumnavigation of our lovely island! In the Autumn, no less.
Clyde set off from Mayo on October 12 and has now reached Midleton in Cork. You can track is progress, with blog and photos here.
He’s doing this solo, with no formal assistance (though everyone he’s met so far has been extremely helpful – from B&B owners, local fishermen, the Irish Coastguard, Canoeing Ireland members etc… Irish hospitality!)
Clyde is raising money for a cancer charity that run a weekly bus from Donegal to Galway each week with cancer patients. The Donegal Galway Cancer Bus. There are no cancer treatment facilities north of Dublin or Galway, and the charity doesn’t receive any government funding, so this kind of fundraising is imperative to their existence.
Can we please ask your lovely readers to donate [link below] what they can?
Free Friday?

Two gents, Jon Hynes and Sean Cahill, kayaked the 1500km around Ireland this summer. A documentary was made about the trip. We are now showing it around the island to whichever club or society are interested.
We’re kicking off the screenings this Friday (October 23) at 8pm in Kinsale Yacht Club [Kinsale, Co Cork]. We’re also raising funds for a wheelchair hoist to help all use the water facilities at Cappanalea Outdoor Education Centre in Kerry. All are welcome.
This afternoon.

The River Liffey is way better when you’re gliding on it. @citykayaking #Sunshine
An amazing challenge, in fairness.
A great cause, to be fair.

Two lads – Pearse O’Toole (Up Spiddal!) and Ruairí Leddy (Cmon’ Roscommon!) – are canoeing around Ireland….AROUND THE ENTIRE island – in aid of Console, Ireland’s National Suicide charity, starting on 24th July from Galway. Any support and awareness you can raise, much appreciated.
Meanwhile….

I saw your post about Kayak for Console and thought I should mention a duo currently out on the water doing the same trek.
Jon Hynes (top left) and Sean Cahill (right) set out on the 16th June from the Old Head of Kinsale to paddle around Ireland. They are currently almost home (Wexford) having braved mountainous seas and weather.
They are raising money for the Cappanalea Centre down in Kerry to allow them to install a hoist for wheelchair access to canoes and kayaks. They are documenting the whole adventure on facebook [link below]. Above is the lads squeezing through Diarmuid and Grainne’s Rock at Loop Head. Co. Clare…
