Yeh that’s gotta hurt later. But sure it’s grand, Irish sun doesnt have any of them UV yokes, he doesn’t need to worry about cancer:)

I dunno. I used to have a tape with Dookie on one side and Smash by The Offspring on the other and I thought I was the sh*t.

I had Dookie and Armitage Shanks. Loved those albums. I don’t know if it’s because my taste gas changed with my age or THEY changed but these days they sound no different to me than Good Charlotte or any of those whiny pop bands that think distortion pedals make them rock bands. Plus a few short years ago they were appearing on, like, EVERY awards show. Punk me hoop.

The second they released Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) which was played over every montage ever, it went wrong.

+1 That tune is up there with Stairway and Creep….except those two bands went on to become arguably the best ever after those abominations of bland.

Were GD ever classed as punk though? Punk-lite/skate-punk maybe?

          1. MoyestWithExcitement

Whatever type of punk it was classed as, it was formulaic pop music, fraudulently presented as “edgy”. Much like Lady Gaga sings lines like ‘get him hot, show him what I got’ and convinces people she’s an “artist” akin to Prince or Bjork because she dresses like a panto character. Little girls will grow up thinking her generic song templates are musical innovation. She’s literally hurting music. And scene.

You can say a lot of things about Gaga but ‘generic’ is not one of them. Plus she has the voice to back it up.

Ah I think Dookie was a great album, it was full of life and was in good humour which was badly needed after Grunge and all the suicide and drug deaths and everyone taking themselves so seriously.

I say that as a former long fringed grunger.

        Smash is a fantastic listen!
That brings me back to my not so troubled teenage years…

The old stuff is not good it’s amazing. The new stuff is not good it’s poo.

It’s how I usually explain away the rosy glow that occasionally enters my cheeks. Mind you, the credibility wanes somewhat in the depths of winter.

I might take the day off and head up to Stephens Green tomorrow with me six cans of Dutch Gold. Make a day of it.

The Irish always look embarrassed by sunshine.

“Oh Jesus, there’s the sun, I’m a state”.
