Meanwhile, in yesterday’s Irish Independent…
A leak about leaks written by man who got leak.
Paul Williams reported:
A three-year GSOC investigation into claims by Independent TD Clare Daly that gardaí leaked details of her arrest for suspected drink-driving has been closed after finding no evidence to support the allegation.
The controversial probe was launched after Ms Daly had lodged a complaint alleging that gardaí leaked details of her arrest for suspected drink driving on January 28, 2013 – subsequent tests showed that Ms Daly was below the limit….
Garda cleared of leaking TD arrest details (Irish Independent)

I don’t think they’ve been “cleared”. If GSOC can’t find evidence it doesn’t mean a Garda didn’t do it. It may just means they were careful enough not to leave evidence.
It’s not ridiculous. It’s highly likely. The police are regularly used to harass political opponents. It’s widely known among political circles in this country.
3 years?? Why the hell did it take 3 years for one relatively minor complaint against a very small number of actors in an incident –
Maybe because closing the investigation would mean giving up and accepting they could prove nothing. There obviously weren’t staff actually working on the case everyday for 3 years.
Why they decided to publish this week though would be the question…
Welcome to Irish public administration. Don’t even ask how much the various barristers were paid.
much as you may mock the collarless crime hack. he was right. bang on.
Hang on, that’s not what the report says…
“An investigation by GSOC into the leaking of details of the arrest of Independent TD Clare Daly in 2013 has concluded that “on the balance of probabilities” some information relating to the arrest came from within An Garda Síochána and were made available to members of the media in an “unauthorised manner”.”
Who did leak the information from the Gardai, how many suspects were investigated
other than the one exonerated.
