Taoiseach Enda Kenny in the Dáil yesterday

Further to yesterday’s post on Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s misleading comments about the 8th amendment in the Dáil, and the subsequent call from the group TFMR Ireland (Termination for Medical Reasons) for him to correct the Dáil record…

Ellen Coyne, in The Times Ireland edition today, reports:

Ruth Coppinger, the socialist TD for Dublin West, had tried to correct Mr Kenny after he made his comments in the Dail.

Nobody in 33 years has ever had a vote on the Eighth Amendment, and the taoiseach either doesn’t know that or deliberately gave the impression that they had,” Ms Coppinger said.

“When people were given the opportunity in 1992 and 2002 to vote to make abortion even more restrictive, they rejected it. The taoiseach is completely incorrect, people do not want to keep the Eighth Amendment.”

...The Department of the Taoiseach did not respond to requests for a comment.

I genuinely think that Enda does not realise that there has been no referendum on the 8th since 1983. the man is a simpleton

He is a gobdaw, but a gobdaw who believes the truth is whatever happens to be the last thing he said.

As an outsider, it seems that Ireland is teetering on the brink of having real momentum behind this issue. All it would take is a seemingly small thing like this to push it over and get this through. Fingers crossed!

      Small thing like this?
So death, X, C and alphabet soup of cases, UN reports, 4,000+ a year “travelling” is not enough?

Enda has been in the Dáil since the ’70’s, he was there before the 8th, knows the consequences of it and is being a coward in not doing anything about it.

He’s a completely untrustworthy individual. He says one thing does another, or speaks untruths out the corner of his mouth in hope of brushing off an issue. He’s a total coward. He won’t just come out and say he’s against it.

          Fuppin’ creep !

What? No. I meant a small thing like Enda having no idea what is going on. It’s sometimes the little things that are the torch.

That’s the problem with so-called “pro-life” supporters. They’ll spread misinformation and outright liesto further their anti choice cause. They don’t give a damn about women with crisis pregnancies and they certainly don’t give a damn about babies once they cease to be in the womb.

That’s not true Daisy. The pro-life hardliners in my area are involved with St VdeP, Lions Club, Focus Ireland, Meals on Wheels etc

You know that’s not true Daisy, don’t you? It’s such a silly, biased notion. Probably comforting to portray people who don’t agree with you as terrible, uncaring people though, I get it.

You only have to read articles by so called “pro life” commentators and comments BTL about women in general. Hateful stuff that labels women as untrustworthy and promiscuous.

There’s a march tomorrow to “celebrate the 8th”, celebrating a law that has killed women and caused a lot of distress and hardship. But, you know, that’s “pro life” for you. Dead women > Dead babies.

Your own attitude to women can pretty much be summed up in your patronising response to Daisy’s comment. Such a “silly” thing, to allow your bias to interfere in what ought to be personal choice and absolutely none of your business.
