From top: The Neonos Holland Watch; John P Holland

The HOLLAND//01 watch takes inspiration from the original Holland class submarines and military submarines of today. The design has subtle curves with sharp edges giving a stealth look while also incorporating blue highlights and a dial legible in darkness or light. The innovative U-shaped lugs hide the ends of the strap creating a unique design feature…

Phil Callaghan writes:

We’re a new company based in Dublin who have just Kickstarted our first watch, a tribute to Irish engineer John P Holland who developed the first submarine..

Over the last 18 months our team of 4 designers have created this watch. We’ve used high quality materials such as Forged Carbon and DLC (Diamond like Coating) stainless steel; this allows the watch to reach depths of 300m! .[more at link below]

Prototyping, testing and design takes time, most people don’t know that. Also, there’s being lots of tracking down suppliers etc. It’s a team of designers who have being working running a design consultancy, so it’s not being a full time project. It’s an Irish company, surely would be great to see it being a success.

          +1

Btw has anyone here got an Ansley watch (also Irish and previously on Broadsheet)?

          I’m looking into one…

This will no doubt blow the minds of the the common ‘back to basics’ humblebrag type, but for real haute horlogerie Irish style, check out these masterpieces from the McGonigle brothers…

Nope. They are absolutely the real deal and have fantastic reputation. But I reckoned there’d be blown minds alright…

        Daft isn’t it?

Clicked in, liked the look of one of them, would buy yet no idea where to view one or order one.

First off you contact them letting them know you have the €100k (yes that’s 100grand) or so required to acquire one of their products. Then you wait about 6 months for them to make it. Hundreds have. That said i reckon their new minute repeater will set you back about €40k.

Forge carbon watches sell for well over 1000euros, it’s also a fully automatic GMT watch 300m dive watch. All in all, a pretty low price if your into watches.

    I have a smart watch.
It does a little more than a watch.
A nice watch would be nicer but also more expensive.
