This morning.
The launch of TG4’s Autumn Schedule 2016.

If only Hector really was the first of the gang to die….
Ouch!
Caipín!
The gang being Daithi O’Se, PJ Gallagher, Neil Delamere, Jason Byrne and “Dermot & Dave”?
Choices, choices…
Caitlin Nic Aoidh…. vroooommmm.
Actually I meant Mairead Ni Chuaig….. vroooommm
But both are cailíní álainn.
Question: do they have Irish surnames before or after working on TG4? Or is it part of the gig?
You leave the Joyce sisters out of this!
Haha
(I don’t get it, was it a joke, god I hope so)
Grainne and Sile Seoige are both from ‘Joyce country’ in Connemara, and Seoige in English is Joyce… and they both started out their TV careers on TG4.
They wuz called Seoige before getting jobs at TG4 :)

One of the people pictured is named Patrick Bergin so no you demonstrably not.
And the other 4? I’m genuinely interested!
“Question: do they have Irish surnames before or after working on TG4? Or is it part of the gig?”
Because most TG4 presenters are from Gaeltacht areas and grew up speaking Irish. That’s why they don’t translate their surname into English. Just like French people don’t translate their surnames into English.
Dumb question, I know. I know lots of people from the gaeltacht who alternate at will but their name on their birth cert is English. Just curious about why.
I’d hazard a guess it’s the job Don.
That said, I’ve a few friends on Facebook whom out of nowhere changed their names to the Irish version after emigrating… there ya go, my wee anecdote, I’m sure I’m not the only one with that one tho.
Yeah that’s what I’m getting at. I get the pride thing of course but just interested.
Seeing as I’m not from a gaelteacht area my experience of Irish names is that people change them to Irish for two reasons,
1. They are a teacher and this extends them a certain amount of anonymity on social media away from the prying eyes of parents (this is very very common)
2. To be different. Nothing to do with pride or anything, just a sort of hipster thing.
3. Claiming the scratcher in two names
Just spit it out Don, what are you getting at?
For a lady that readily understands and promotes people who switch gender at will, despite having a specific gender on their birth cert, one would think that you would understand a simpler concept like changing names…
Huh. I would have thought at least some of it was something to do with pride in being Irish and being able to speak Irish fluently. Go figure.
I totally get 1.
Obviously two things you have no experience of or wish to have.
Hadn’t thought of hoop!
Are you sure its just curiosity Don?? Sure there’s nothing else underneath that? I never saw you ever say “Dumb question I know”. A little agenda tickling on there? part of the trend here that its ok to mock Gaelgoirs? But just gently easing into it in your passive aggressive way maybe? Dumb question, genuinely interested, just curious… Not like you at all!
I never asked a dumb question before, that’s why.
Certainly, you never admitted to it so eye-battingly and full of feigned ignorance. Sorry for pointing this out after the mauling you got yesterday, but perhaps you might use it as a learning opportunity.
jaysus, what did i miss yesterday?
I won’t. Goodbye.
Of course you wont. not your style.
But at least I’m fairly sure I found ABM/emotional tish etc!!
Sorry, wrong tree. This is just me. Never went by another name, although I often see other people posting under mine.
@rotide
Post about cavan family. I questioned the appropriateness of this given how people like to spectulate and personal experience. Emotional tish turns up, attempts to rip a new one. Speculation begins. Post taken down for some reason. My first clearly so when I thank BS, I get a pile on from the usual suspects.
I miss dog videos!! A simpler time.
Ahhh i see.
Well, look at it this way, xmas is only about 12 weeks away and we’ll have animals dressed up in santa suits.
No POSSIBLE grounds for rows in that.
Untill one is in blackface.
Good point.
You got troll mobbed Don :)
Trobbed
What’s ‘Monkey Tennis’ as Gaeilge?
Buala liathróid na fír an bheag.
Leadóídge na moncaithe.
Lets revive Aramaic…
Looking at list of speakers in this, it looks like Aramaic might be a tad more alive than our own dying lingo!

Not dying.
It’s always sunny on TG4.
Weather ‘persons’
Sorry Rotide, ‘weather daoine’. Thank you.
Disgrace that we’re still pouring good money after bad on this dead language
TROLL ALERT OUT YOU GET PWB
Who the hell dressed yer man in the first pic >_<
Names in Irish are mostly more attractive than the versions translated into English, just sayin’.
We are at peak TAN SHOE
Nothing worse than the tan shoe
