Apparently the bus lane issue is decided by the Council not the Gardaí.

You’ll all be delighted to hear I flew in this morning on me rothar.

  2. Gah!

I live at the junction of a busy main street. From 9pm last night, there were no buses idling outside at the lights. The peace was wonderful!

Funny: the road noise was very different this morning. You’re right: buses are very noisy.

I had a great morning buzzing to work on empty bus lanes until I nearly got knocked down twice by reckless drivers breaking red lights. Great morning…

If only we had more rothar lanes that weren’t congested with illegally parked cars, I’d almost be ecstatic

Interesting. I found cyclists unusually aggressive on the road this morning. Freed from the dangers of the large bus road users perhaps.

        1. Nessy

Indeed. Or they were probably regular bus users forced to pedal to work. That’d grind their gears – weh weh weh

Aye. I nearly got creased twice by young ladies in small cars deciding to head into the bus lane. Signaling and pulling in, because as we all know signaling means you can do what you want.

The only thing missing from bus lanes this morning apart from bikes, motorbikes and powerful German saloon cars were the buses.

  5. Increasing Displacement

Wait wait, the bus lanes still apply even though there’s no buses running?
What dribbler thought that a good idea?

    1. ReproBertie

They’re bus lanes, not Dublin Bus lanes. There are plenty of private buses that use them as well as Bus Éireann.

    2. Increasing Displacement

Gardai and emergency service isn’t an adequate reason. I don’t see why private buses should be gives a pass. They are private businesses like any other. As for Bus Eireann, was on one one and never again. Dirty smelly 3 hour trip. The lanes should have been opened up for peak traffic end of story.

      1. ReproBertie

Taxis are private businesses but they get to use the bus lanes.

The point of bus lanes is to encourage bus use, be that Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann or private buses, and thus reduce the number of cars/level of traffic on the roads. The fact that one bus company is not running today doesn’t make the lanes any less necessary for the others.

        1. Increasing Displacement

I also don’t see why a taxi should get breaks. We all pay for the roads, why do certain private groups get preference?

What private companies actually reduce congestion?

  6. Question Egg

I heard the timetables are just made up to keep people quiet, all the buses do is drive around as they feel
