When he was Leas Ceann Comhairle from a certain angle you could see his feet swinging as he sat on his chair.

Could the SDs not have forked out on a teleprompter for scene three ” kitchen musings”?

What’s the point of the Social Democrats. Why not just vote Socialist/ AAA/ PBP? The Social Democrats are like a half-way house to nothing.

It’s intersting how such a tiny party that hasn’t existed a year has so many people making worried comments like this. The SDs are what a political party *should* be. It’ll take them a couple of years but people will eventually realise they are the only professional, credible political party worthy of trust we have and vote for them over FF-FG and Labour.

      1. Cot

No, not worried, it was a genuine question. Why go Social Democrat rather than Socialist? I’d vote for the SDs if there was no Socialist candidate in my area.

I know that. But, put it like this. I’ve a lot of time for Catherine Murphy and Shorthall. They’ve done great work. But when the SDs were formed, I was wonderinIg why the hell a party like that allowed Stephen Donnelly in (it’s clear he’s very right in the SD spectrum). I suppose I’m worried that once Murphy and Shorthall go, the SDs will go the New Labour way.

            “I know that.”

Why did you propose voting for socialists instead of social democrats when you’re aware they’re different concepts?

“I was wonderinIg why the hell a party like that allowed Stephen Donnelly in”

Because social democracy and socialism are different things which you just said you were aware of.

“I suppose I’m worried that once Murphy and Shorthall go, the SDs will go the New Labour way.”

You think they’ll go right wing but you’re proposing socialists as their alternative??

          3. Cot

I always vote the most progressive candidates down the list. My point is, why join a party that has no fixed red line. With the socialists you know they’ll do x, y, z. But with the Social Democrats? A party that has great people like Murphy in it on the one hand, and that had Donnelly in it (when it’s quite obvious that he was never a social democrat (except in the very Blairite sense of the word)). What’s the ne plus ultra of the Social Democrats? Where does the free market begin and end for them?

    2. Feidlim MacSásta

      They’re not Socialists Cot.

Social Democratic means free market economy without the absolutely greedy cwnts bit.

Lets talk about what is really the problem here, how bad is that video…seriously? they need to hire a professional and not put out crap like that if they want people to take them serious.

    1. Anomanomanom

So the video was crap but the ideas are spot on. So il take the ideas on board and the video standard.

  4. Lord Lucan

The Social Democrats…they’ve tried that in Sweden and Denmark and look at the state of those countries, a housing market that never sees double digit price rises in a year, with housing affordable for working class plebs. An educations system that doesn’t even reward rote learning and childcare and health insurance for all. Is that the kind of Ireland that we want to live in???

    1. MoyestWithExcitement

God, no. How am I going to feel superior to working class people if we were to do all that?

  5. some old queen

Is there any chance that what is happening to the British Labour party could happen to the Irish? It is the same ego driven preachy heads no matter what year we are in.

Why has Labour got such a death wish?

    1. Kieran NYC

You mean they’d become fanatics who’d purge moderate members who could make them electable?

That type are already in PBP/AAA/SWP etc

      1. MoyestWithExcitement

        “Fanatics”

See, that kind of patronising, demeaning language ks why I have zero problem giving you le merde.

        1. OhRowShayDoVahaWaile
