Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged session was released as a full-length recording on November 1st, 1994, months after the suicide of frontman/guitarist Kurt Cobain.
I’ve always thought Nirvana were overrated but never more so than their unplugged session. There were dozens of really good unpluggeds but this one always grabbed the headlines for some reason. Possibly because a lot of young kids in the states got an introduction to bowie without realising it.

Agree. Was a big Nirvana fan but the unplugged never really did it for me. Pearl Jam unplugged was brilliant.
rotide
Yeah, that and the cure were highlights
Bob
Ooh, and Alice In Chains! God, I’m almost missing the 90’s…

nah, Nirvana’s session was one of the best, a lot of other artists dragged in string quartets or extra musicians to beef up the sound. their session is really raw and they did a load of songs I’d never heard before (including the Bowie cover) rather than just running through the hits.

I recorded that off MTV and watched is a million times. Was a huge Nirvana fan though couldn’t listen to them now – except for unplugged which is great

Seriously? I bought that in or around 1995.

The Nick Broomfield documentary would have you believing that theory anyway.

which I saw and based my previous statement upon…
tommy
that was good

Nirvana were great because Kurt Cobain was great. His writing, melodies, guitar playing style and his singing made him stand out way above anyone else at the time. I really liked the unplugged performance too, but my favourite album is In Utero, it still sounds amazing.

Couldn’t listen to most of the stuff on Nevermind any more, but I’ve always got time for In Utero.

Really loved these back then, stone temple pilots was another great one.
Anyone see montage of heck? Really made me see Cobain in a different light.
Starina
