Bruuuuuce on the Late Late!
Yay.
From London.
Oh.
Gareth Naughten writes:
For the first time in almost 30 years, The Late Late Show is leaving the country for an interview with ‘The Boss’, Bruce Springsteen. The Late Late Show very rarely leaves the RTÉ campus, let alone the country, and it has been many years since a guest was interviewed outside of Ireland. The last time is believed to have been when Gay Byrne travelled to London to interview Hollywood star Jane Fonda in 1989….
Host Ryan Tubridy said:
“For one night only, The Late Late Show is making a small detour to London for a very special guest. This is very unusual, and not something we do very often, but when The Boss comes calling, you just can’t say no. It is a first in my time as host of The Late Late Show and we hope that people will roll with it because we felt he was someone worth chasing. The Irish people have a particular love of Bruce Springsteen, and him for us, and people will see that in the interview”

It’s the Late Late Bruxit !
A prerecorded interview with Bruce or a video link to Bruce in London.
Wow.
The thought of it.
Technology has come so far dude !
I don’t believe Bruce is worth torturing myself with Tubridy.for.
I think I’ll go out.

You’ll be back by 11.30 to rant at the papers :)
and then back again at 1.45am. and then again at 2.40, 2.55, 3.30, 4.10, 5.25 and for one last hurrah at around 7.
Admit it, you love it.
You are entitled to your opinion, but a lot of people like him and rate him not only as an artist but as a person too, I am one if those people. I just wonder how many of todays so called talented artists will be around as long as Bruce has.
.. where he’l be asked such interesting questions like .. “do you like ireland?” .. “where in ireland have you been?” and “will you come back to ireland?”
Hahaha
Ah now. Tubridy isn’t *quite* that bad (sometimes).
He’s not Ray.
I reckon Bruce’ll get a Ghost of Tom Joad* style epic tune out of the pain of dealing with a Tubridy interview; the inevitable ‘and you had loads of Irish neighbours, tell me about them…’ schtick and the dogged determination to get thru every question on the cue cards…
Thought that was Michael Barrymore for a second.
We all have a memory of Gay Byrne and pioneering or challenging intervews.
I wonder though, was that because we were about 8 at the time…. ?
I just don’t get the Bruce thing.
I’ve tried, lots of people have done my compilations etc but he just leaves me cold.
( I’d say he’s gutted about it ).
Right there with you, his appeal eludes me completely. He fails the milkman test, so easily passed by Jackson Browne and Paul Simon.
There’s days I’ll say ‘see him live, and it should all make sense’
Then there are other days I’ll say ‘he’s just Meatloaf* but with a bit more subtlety, intelligence and insight’
Either way, I think he’s great.
In other news, still can’t stand cauliflower.
*Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg played on Bat out of Hell.
Early Bruce is the place to start. But then, if you don’t get it you don’t get it. I don’t get Bowie *ducks* but very that others do
Thanks, Don. As a writer he is too bombastic and verbose for me (I do however love the tentpole revival feel of his shows).
we all like the tentpole revival, neilo
Indeed – I’m not a complete savage *holds nosegay daintily under proboscis both aquiline and retroussé*
You’ve been in at my Mills&Boon stash again, haven’t you?
I didn’t get him either until I heard “Adam Raised a Cain”.
Legend.
This will be about as entertaining as an amputation.
The Irish people have a particular love of Bruce Springsteen, and him for us,
Just not enough love to be bothered to come to the country for an interview though.
Sweet sufferin’ Jaysus, is there no end to this ordure?
Awkward Tubridy and his awkward way about him. Mad to get a scoop. You can see his brain scrambling to not feck up the next question while asking the previous one.
Like the opposite of an after dinner speaker.
Awkward.
