I can just hear all the saving of 1000s of CCTV images and uploading into face recognition software for future blacklisting (and sharing with Irish army G2 unit).

The same intelligence gathering community who admitted they couldn’t properly monitor returned ISIS fighters, and leaked that the gardai don’t have Arabic speakers?

      1. martco

arra shure don’t be worrying about it

the government are sending out iodine tablets so if it all goes to pot we’ll be safe as houses

        they’re in the post

      +1

I really get upset about glib comparisons between everyday bigots and the most horrible, destructive ideology in the history of humanity.

        1. Rob_G

I can see where you are coming from. But although communism killed more people, they were mainly ‘collateral damage’; the Nazis tried to wipe out an entire race of people.

Anyhow, comparing Trump, unpleasant as he is, to the horrors of either would be a bit silly.

          1. DubLoony

            Collateral damage?
            Siberian camps.
            Chinese revolution, camps, mass starvation.
            Pol pot re-education camps
            The list goes on.

They deliberately targeted groups of people because they were deemed to be unacceptable for whatever reason. Extremism from left or right has been guilty of the death of millions.

          2. Mahoney

I always count total deaths over racial/ethnic lines. pretty sure mao & stalin have put more people in the ground than cancer and heart disease combined, and we’ll probably never know the jong il family’s top score, but of course, none of those were “real” communism according to your average socialist

It’s worth arguing that Communism (as played out as a State-run ideology in the 20th century) and Naziism were both forms of fascism, given the “14 defining characteristics of fascism”:

        1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism – Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
        2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights – Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
        3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause – The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
        4. Supremacy of the Military – Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
        5. Rampant Sexism – The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
        6. Controlled Mass Media – Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
        7. Obsession with National Security – Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
        8. Religion and Government are Intertwined – Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions.
        9. Corporate Power is Protected – The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
        10. Labor Power is Suppressed – Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
        11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts – Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
        12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment – Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
        13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption – Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
        14. Fraudulent Elections – Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

        1. nellyb

This is true in any system where elections are gamed to extreme by people who dream of eating and $h!ting money. I dare to claim human condition controls all ideologies with no exception. Only personal individual maturity is the way out of it, but it had become as rare as 60 days without rain in Kerry.

“3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause”

Like Fine Gael and their hatred of the poor and “welfare cheats” while ignoring the much more costly white collar criminals.

  2. ReproBertie

He may be a racist, sexist, isolationist conman but he won the election. How outraged would these protestors be if there were protests in a foreign country about the results of our election?

    1. Jake38

Lets not forget this crew got 3,.8% of the popular vote in the last Dail election.

Trump will tremble at their mandate.

      1. Boy M5

Either you’re a Trump supporter or you’ll use any excuse to bash the left, even if they protest against someone who also oppose.

    2. Delacaravanio

      1. He lost the popular vote.
      2. If we elected a loudmouth bigot with autocratic tendencies the EU would impose sanctions on uefa.

      1. rotide

The popular vote has absolutely nothing to do with the rules of the election. It’s basically being undemocratic to keep bringing it up.

        1. delacaravanio

It’s undemocratic to point out that the system is undemocratic. And the dish ran away with the spoon.

  3. ZeligIsJaded

    ‘…protest the election…..’.

Hold your horses and protest when the time is right, ye giddy eejits.

May as well protest against the rain.

    1. Joe Small

Obviously the objective is to be seen to protest rather than actually achieve anything by it.

They’d have been happy protesting against a President-Elect Hillary too, I imagine.

  4. nellyb

Nuts. Election outcome of another nation is none of our business.
There were no protests after Duterte’s election, the softly spoken, non-violent and mannered gent he is.

  5. human

Honestly this lot LITERALLY have nothing else to do.

    Sad. Very Low Energy.

Look at the way they are dressed. Sad.

    1. edalicious

I like how you’ve started to affect a Trump style of phrasing in your posts. Nice depth of trolling there. Points for effort.

  6. DubLoony

How come BS has an AAA/PBP related story every day? Are there no other parties whose activities should be tracked? Its the quiet ones that you need to look at.

    1. nellyb

“Are there no other parties whose activities should be tracked?” – watching other is like watching grazing sheep.
It only gets exciting when a large shepherd dog herds them. AAA/PBP lads are more entertaining.

  7. Boy M5

    Interesting.

Almost everyone is against Trump as President of the US. However, once “Lefties” are seen protesting against him, the attack is directed at them, not Trump. So the criticism of the protesters has nothing to do with Trump. It’s just a Fine Gael sneering attack on anyone who is considered a “Leftie”, regardless of what it is they are saying.

    1. rotide

The attack is directed against a bunch of eejits protesting against a legal and valid election in another state. It doesn’t matter if they are left or right or alien communists, it’s ridiculous.

Save it for a protest against a state visit or war or reduction in corporate tax or whatever.

  8. Painkiller

What are the US Embassy supposed to do about it? Entitled dopes. Ironic that the regressive left are the only guys around holding a hate symbols.

To his credit, Donald Trump appeared to be the devil you know in the presidential race. His task is to show that he can represent American people. Hillary relied heavily on having the benefit of the doubt from the regressive left and liberal media at every step, and no doubt would have had interests ahead of the American people.
