One of New Zealand’s largest news websites is busy publishing clickbait articles describing the Irish as ‘rugby’s new whingers’. Don’t read the comment sections if you are thin skinned (or indeed, a whinger) and Irish…

That’s pretty much correct. But no rugger bugger will admit it. They’ll all close ranks or ‘keep it close’ as they love to say.

This is how they cope with allowing us to beat them for the first time in 111 years. They’re not called “precious” for nothing.

Listening to the post match interviews/analysis on radio one I was stuck and how this narrative of “we lost due to poor refereeing and dangerous new zealand tackles” was adopted. It seemed to set the tone for all irish coverage of the match afterwards and seemed to ignore that new zealand were the better team..

I can only presume that you didn’t listen to any of the actual analysis since you are so completely wrong.

I did and I am commenting on what I heard, since it is all subjective there really is no right or wrong is there?

        Wrong.

All analysis, from Thornley to second captains etc , said NZ were the better team on the day. 3 tries to zero – no argument there.

Consternation was over officiating. Barrett try was called by TMO without even seeing second camera angle. Tackles on henshaw and zero. Tackle on Zebo should have been red. World Rugby admitted that yday.

NZ never see red, last one was in the 60’s. Heaslip got sent off against them a few years back for a lot less

after the Chicago match the panel on marian (300,000€ into her “production company” to read papers out loud b.t.w.) were in raptures about the win except not one of them had watched it.Rugby is merely a class signifier for many which brings lots of ignorance to the table.Having said that it’s a fact that NZ get away with alot more than other teams.

Rubbish, all the analysis said that NZ were the better team. They also said that there was some dubious tackles from NZ. The reaction to people pointing out that NZ were a bit dangerous at times is pretty sad. Because they won, are we not allowed to saything about their performance?

As for the absolute lack of awareness from the NZ press. I think the loss to Ireland was the first time they didn’t have a major hissy fit after losing.

Horsesh1t. New Zealand won by being the more clinical team. Ireland had their chances, but screwed them up. But at the same time, the reffing was absolutely inadequate, and New Zealand pushed the rules to breaking point, and in some cases did actually break them. That’s largely been accepted by most of the rugby pundits, but I’d imagine you didn’t actually bother to listen to any of them and just ran with the New Zealand media’s narrative.

If I didn’t listen to radio one after the match I would not have heard what I did hear and I would not have stated that in my original post.

Sums it up really. Was expecting we’d get trounced after the win but we actually had the possession and potential to beat them. And we really were blowing them away for much of the second half. Problem was we weren’t clinical where it really mattered. Too many errors inside 5 metres cost us a second win. Yeah they fouled a bit but that’s not why they won and we lost. They took their chances and we didn’t.

Let’s move on from it and take the positives.

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating.

Dav has an incredibly admirable ability to stick with his chosen narrative in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

NZ won. and it wasnt close. we had all the possession and territory, but couldnt finish. they got a handful of half chances and took them all. they did play rough .. but by and large were penalised for it. they did try to hurt players with tackles rather than just tackle them .. but why didnt we do that back? that centre and barret (10) did most of the damage, and looked like they would from the start, so throw shoulders into their heads. if thats how NZ play.. and they do .. then do the same back. but abandon that tactic against other teams, because it is mostly only NZ who play like that.

New Zealand get whopped by Ireland in Chicago, lose by their biggest margin in over a decade, and score their lowest points tally this year, 2 weeks later New Zealand come to Dublin, they score two dubious tries and one clear try get two people binned with one getting a retrospective red, give away 14 – 4 in foul ratio and score their lowest points tally this year, Ireland quite clearly gave them their toughest test this year on the back of an outright deserved pasting in Chicago, the idiots who claim that 9 – 21 was a clear victory for NZ are deluded and no nothing about rugby.
