4 days left… what are the odds on who will shuffle off the mortal coil next?

Gay Byrne? Brush Shiels? Kirk Douglas? Gary Numan? Boy George?….

They give birth astride the grave – Beckett.

There’s a few quid on Brucie – though I don’t see it myself.
Nice to be breathing. To be breathing nice.

I picked up and flicked thru an ‘inspiring quotes’ book, a stocking filler I dropped on reading Kanye’s… ” one should their ‘flyness’ to overcome ‘shyness’ ”

Im not quoting directly, it was literally too stupid to recall correctly

I’ve never watched The Graham Norton Show, and I’ve never seen any of the Star Trek films, but Carrie Fisher was funnier than Joe Wilkinson on this year’s Christmas edition of 8 Out Of 10 Cats, and that’s saying something.

Nice try. Iv never watched any of the star trek films either but I still know she was not in any of them, just like you know that as well.

Amused that some reporters remarked that Shinzo Abe failed to apologise for Pearl Harbour. Did the US ever apologise for Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Hiroshima or Nagasaki? No. Should a country at war apologise decades later for being at war even if they reject the concept eighty years later? If the government you now represent were in the business of enemy annihilation at a time when everyone was at it, is that your burden of guilt today?

possibly it’s a generational fade to grey….maybe taking less or more time depending on the atrocities involved

Abe is a far-right nutjob. He still thinks that Japanese Imperialism did the Chinese and Korean people a lot of good. Him and Trump will get on very well.

    3. Junkface

Exactly! Especially when it was totally unneccessary to drop the A-bombs at the time. Truman just wanted to use the technology. Japan had already given up

      1. Yep

Nah they hadn’t. After the first the Generals were still calling for the Japanese to keep fighting. The Emperor stepped in after the second.

That is in no way excusing their use.

        1. Junkface

According to the historians who contributed to The Untold History of the United States documentary, there was no neccessity for the A-Bombs to be dropped. It was Truman and some generals who really wanted it. They felt that they had paid for a show and they wanted to see one.

          1. Yep

My assessment is based on the Eric Schlocesrerer (sp) book Command and Control. I could never say i’m about most things and i haven’t seen that doc.

            Highly recommend the book though.

      2. Spaghetti Hoop

That’s true about the technology – and I suspect you could be right about Japan thinking of ceasing.
Interestingly, if you google the words ‘war apology’ look at which country is repeatedly referenced!
I don’t recall Winston Churchill ever apologizing for Mers el Kebir – and that was against an ally.

Thats not the same thing, France had a huge and for the time advanced navy. They refused to scupper their own ships, in other words, willing to hand the Germans the whole lot rather than destroy it. Jesus the Parisians police force was so well equipped they could have bloody taking a stand and do very well expect the French government completely capitulated.

          1. Spaghetti Hoop

Disagree. Brits destroyed the French fleet to win over the Americans. It was an act of war against an ally. My point is about apology in the aftermath of war. It appears it is the victor’s that demand one yet not offer one in return.

      Oh, Peter Dempsey.

Back when I was only 54yrs old I had young girls coming on to me all the time. No messing.
      Smashing beauties, etc and etc.
I asked them to produce their birth-certs… I never saw them again.

As my mentor Mark E Smith once said, ‘You cannot legislate against wrongful encouragement’.
      Especially when, eh…

I forgot what I was going to say, but you don’t need me to elucidate further if you might understand anyway.
      Happy New Years.

All you Miserablists, take a long hike,
Get off the stage, let go the mic.
If you can’t bring good cheer
    Feck off ’til next year
    – Did Santy not bring you a bike?

      Frilly, I’m getting your jist.
We both think that this ‘John’ might exist.
      I think we’ve been had
      He’s just a facade
      – Forgive me John, I’m pretty pi55ed.

The rest of them haven’t a clue
And that’s why they do what they do.
If they can’t rise above it
They ought to just shove it
Fecking narcissists , you know it’s true.

What makes them think we want to hear
Depressing stuff they might post here?
        2016’s near gone
But they go on and on, and on, and on….
        -Feck them, Happy New Year.

        1. Sheik Yahbouti

Ah, shut your cake hole. Many of us are drunks – we don’t go on and on about it like a holly and ivyer. Happy New Year and drink less.

          1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

            Sorry Skakin’ Stevens.
I should be more nicer to you.
            – All the other girls on this site are terrified of me.
