You have to admire Enda’s optimism.
Like 17th March 2017 is ever going to happen…

The boy is playing Snap on a chessboard, and we all know who’s going to win. (Begins with an ‘R’, and it’s NOT Ronald.)

“Government Admits no Control over US clearance System” ,and why should or would they? what kind of a mouth breather would think they had? All the Officials are from the US, it is the US border control.

    1. classter

Yup, which made sense when the US system was strict but lawful.

Now that they have a policy which probably violates international law, possibly violates US law, might violate Irish law and will be a valuable recruiting/propaganda tool for terrorist organisations, we need to ask ourselves if we can allow it be carried out on Irish soil.

      1. Twunt

The US system is a matter for the US. The stupidity of Trump is outdone by the moral outrage and hysteria from the media and AAA types.

Trump is trolling them and they can’t see it.

        1. classter

The US system is not simply a matter for the US.

The world is bound up in networks & alliances and we should not be allowing the US to use Ireland to carry out stupid, destabilising, sectarian, counter-productive measures on Irish soil

  3. Yep

Guardian- ” As the truck bomb exploded, it felt as if the ground lifted”

Yes, it probably had. If you were in the front page proximity.

    Dear Broadsheet,
While I’m still in a coherent state, can I ask..?
    – Why are ALL OF the newspapers NOT ALWAYS published in mini-form, like what you belatedly did last Sunday?

Nobody should have to load and reload a dozen LARGE images every time they visit.
It takes ages on me phone, absolutely ages.

    You have the technology.
    Please use it.

      1. esǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

Yep, these daze it’s all about getting a grip…
        …and some Vaseline…
        …and not saying anything…
…and bending over and asking for more…

        I’m wrong, you’re Right.
You know everything…Only because you know nothing.
(I was your age once, a long time ago. I knew everything too. Now I know more)

        1. Yep

Jesus didn’t patronise. Why do you?

Turn your souring blood to sacrament from sacrifice. No undue judgments. No preconceived notion of infallibility. Your message is as important as mine.

Minus the deep cuts of Reggaeton.

All love you mad savage. You’re a shining light of obscurantism. Stay strong.

    1. classter

Are things really so bad already that we should celebrate a Trump announcement that he does not intend to rescind an Obama-era executive order protecting LGBTQ employees of federal contractors from discrimination?

Just step back & think about what you are celebrating? Pretty thin gruel, isn’t it?

          1. Clampers Outside!

Sorry what now Nigel… are you really going to suggest that… Jesus wept… your self delusion isn’t imposed on you, it’s worn like a feckin’ badge of honor.

You appear to desire to convince yourself of any reality but the one you are in.

This is what happens when subjectivity is used to replace objectivity as a measure of the world around us. People will willfully convince themselves their surroundings are what they want them to be to fuel that subjective view, good or bad, not what the reality is.

            Just….. wow !

          2. Nigel

I’m sorry, if you were making a point in there it got lost in the string of sneering put-downs and attacks on my mental health.

          3. Clampers Outside!

Not at all my dear Nigel. One does not have to be suffering from any mental health issues to be deluded. One need only be convinced something not true, is true.

            You’ll be fine.

            – – – – –

            As an aside…
I’ll take note of this particularly deplorable attempt at smearing another commenter, an attempt at silencing them, an attempt at shutting them down t6hrough accusation; an attempt to close down free speech through de-legitimization; an attempt by accusing an other of having slagged off your mental health… a truly pathetic low point for you Nigel.

Your intent here was and is quite clear.

            Thank you for demonstrating it.

          4. Listrade

Your aside begins with a lone trumpeter playing the Star Spangled banner, a full military band joins as the speech enters full William Wallace. The Flag is raised behind you as the band reaches its crescendo. The camera pulls out to reveal thousands of neckards pumping their fists holding Upvote arrows high in the air as a bald eagle screeches as it flies over the crowds.

          5. Nigel

‘Your intent here was and is quite clear.’

I thought so. Presumably that’s why you chose to pretend it was something else.

          6. Nigel

Oh, and it appears wanting to know why you think I’m deluded, what specifically it is I’m deluded about, is me attempting to silence you. You snowflake.

          7. Clampers Outside!

I answered Nigel, it’s there clear as day. But you are too deluded to see it. You just carry on, keep making those accusations.

It just gets better and better with them proving the point over and over.

            – – – –

Thanks Listrade, you can keep your fanfare for yourself.

          8. Nigel

You repeatedly accuse me of being deluded. (I think deluded might take offence at that, if they’re around.) You repeated;y refuse to specify what you think I’m deluded about. Is the point you’re proving over and over again that you’re a massive waste of time?

          9. Clampers Outside!

I have repeatedly pointed out what you are deluded about.

Here, one last time… “….It shows that public opposition works…” is a deluded idea re the LGBTQ executive order. It’s that simple, even for you.

This is my last time responding on that point on this thread Nigel. If you don’t get it by now, I cannot do anything for you.

          10. Nigel

‘Here, one last time… “….It shows that public opposition works…” is a deluded idea re the LGBTQ executive order. It’s that simple, even for you.’

Ah! I see! It was in there somewhere!

Please explain why I am deluded to think that public opposition may have affected Trump’s decision not to remove Federal protections for LGBT employees?

      1. Clampers Outside

        Did anyone say celebrate?

Jaysus, how quickly the hysteria disappears… nothing wrong in pointing out the tumbleweed on what was sold by so may as a life or death topic before election.
        … but now i’m ‘celebrating’ ?

Get off classter, you’ve a longer memory than that….

        1. Nigel

No now you’re big snide followed by sarcastic defensiveness because you’re not making any meaningful point but you’re being loud about it.

          1. Clampers Outside!

No Nigel. Point out the snide, there is nothing derogatory, I’m not being underhanded, I’m upfront, there’s nothing devious… nada, zilch, I am being frank.

You make accusations, it’s all you know how to do…. unfortunately.

          2. Nigel

            “Worst homophobe ever”

Seriously? No shade, nothing derogatory? You’re either being stunningly obtuse or you’re almost debilitatingly tone-deaf.

(I’m actually not sure whether Trump has been directly accused of being a homophobe very much – he has said nice things about gay marriage and apparently the bathrooms in his facilities are trans-friendly – I even heard some say that at least that was one good thing about him. Then he picked Pence for VP, and then people had good cause to get scared, along with his demonstrated tendency in office to feed red meat to his base. However he also backs down in some areas – this would appear to be one of those. It shows that public opposition works.)

          3. Clampers Outside!

            More accusations.
Also, I see you are using your own choice to be offended as an argument now…. Wtf Ted…

Jesus fuppin’ wept from the cross and drops were used in cocktails for the deluded. There are no words any more…. you’ve gone the whole hog with it Nigel, clear right up your own hoop at this point.

            And this further confirms it…
“….It shows that public opposition works…”

            Like I said, deluded.

          4. Nigel

            ‘More accusations.’

            What. Are. You. On. About?

‘Jesus fuppin’ wept from the cross and drops were used in cocktails for the deluded.’

            This is just nonsense.

‘There are no words any more…. ‘

Trere are words. Try putting them into sentences that express an argument, point or opinion.

‘you’ve gone the whole hog with it Nigel, clear right up your own hoop at this point.’

I await with bated breath an explanation as to what you mean by this.

            ‘And this further confirms it…
“….It shows that public opposition works…”’

Presumably this indicates an argument, opinion or point that you are either not prepared or unequipped to actually make.

            ‘Like I said, deluded.’

You say it as if it is self-evident, as if a challenge to your opinion or world-view must be rejected out of hand without explanation or argument, but you find it so offensive as to provoke accusations of insanity. There was someone on here yesterday giving out about this kind of attitude.

          5. Clampers Outside!

Your accusation that I was being derogatory. Is just that an accusation.

” ‘Jesus fuppin’ wept from the cross and drops were used in cocktails for the deluded.’ This is just nonsense. ”
Fair play, you understood that one.

‘There are no words any more…. ‘ an expression of exasperation.

” ‘you’ve gone the whole hog with it Nigel, clear right up your own hoop at this point.’ ” Your delusional view on life and the goings on around you has brought you to the point where I believe all that you can see is the inside of your own ass.

” ‘And this further confirms it… “….It shows that public opposition works…”’
Presumably this indicates an argument, opinion or point that you are either not prepared or unequipped to actually make. ”
No, it confirms that you have convinced yourself that this is announced due to public pressure…… which is totally laughable nonsense, ie, deluded.

” ‘Like I said, deluded.’ You say it as if it is self-evident ” – it is, see above.

” as if a challenge to your opinion or world-view must be rejected out of hand without explanation or argument, ” – Never have I. I always invite a challenge. And I have pointed out, accusations are not challenges.

” but you find it so offensive” …em… I don’t…. where’d you get that?

” as to provoke accusations of insanity. ” – I called you deluded. One does not have to be insane to be deluded. One need only be convinced of something that is not true.

” There was someone on here yesterday giving out about this kind of attitude. ” – There was yes, I believe they were talking about you.

          6. Nigel

All that and I still don’t have a clear idea of what you think about any of the issues that sparked this exchange, though getting stroppy about me accusing your derogatory comments of being derogatory is classic Clamoers.

          7. Clampers Outside!

Stroppy….. I’m not in a bad temper Nigel, and I have been quite accommodating of your repeated accusations without getting argumentative on those particular snipes, so… stroppy… it’s a big stretch, in fairness.

But you like to think you stirred up something, which is fine, I understand…. it’s all part of the delusion or something.

          8. Nigel

You did not. If you think you did, I assure you it was lost somewhere in the evocations of Jesus on the cross and accusations of delusion and complaints about being accused of things.

        2. classter

You’re describing him (or linking ot a description) as ‘worst homophobe ever”.

For almost any other candidate, this would be a completely routine announcement and not worthy of sharing.

    2. Listrade

Genuine question on this. Why do you need to make a specific statement that you’re keeping one EO? Just keep it. Was it a new EO saying he’ll keep an existing EO as the tweet makes out? As far as I can see it is only a statement that he won’t retract it.

Plus if rumours are to be believed based on leaks…that have been 100% accurate to date, there is an impending EO that will allow for LGBT discrimination on religious grounds. It’s another of his promises and he’s lived up to them all so far.

All the EO does is prevent discrimination within federal contractors.

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

What was the purpose of this post – and would you care to outline the outcome of the prosecutions?

      1. jusayinlike

Sheik, Ken Clarke has been heavily linked to paedophilia in the UK, he was very good friends with other suspects such as Leon Britton and Jimmy Savile..
In this particular case the corrupt judiciary found in favour of Clarke but also acquitted fellows of perverting the course of justice

      1. classter

I dunno if that is the actual statement or not but it is completely irrelevant.

        A) There has been a single allegation made by this chap, Ben Fellowes. It was not verified by anybody else and was in fact contradicted by others.

        B) The police didn’t believe Fellowes & in fact, he was charged with perverting the course of justice.

        C) He claimed that journalists investigating the Cash for Questions scandal had proof of the affair because Ken Clarke was enmeshed in the affair. In fact, it was the witness statement of one of the senior Guardian journos who broke the Cash for Questions scandal which helped convince the police that Clarke was innocent.

        D) Fellowes was not underage at the time anyhow, even if the implication of Fellowe’s allegations was that Clarke hung around with paedophiles.

        E) Fellowes also implicated John Major, David Cameron & Andrew Lloyd Webber.

It does seem likely that a paedophile ring(s) was active in Westminster in the past but the names mentioned here are not the ones which have emerged from more credible allegations and with zero evidence emerging for any of Fellowe’s claims it is in rather poor taste to be linking that video just because you don’t like Ken Clarke’s politics.

        1. Kieran NYC

“it is in rather poor taste to be linking that video just because you don’t like Ken Clarke’s politics.”

You must have missed the new standard of evidence Bodger introduced around here.

“I don’t like Hillary Clinton, therefore she is a pedophile.”

          1. classter

The difference Clampers is that Trump, while clearly not Hitler, is showing worrying leanings towards authoritarianism/fascism.

He may or may not end up being as bad as some fear but those leanings cannot be denied!

    2. Listrade

For someone with such a sensitive paedophile radar, it’s got a few blind spots when it comes to those who are within your political sphere.

          1. Listrade

Records show Trump did too. Actual allegations of Trump involved with underage girls. Yet you never post them.

          2. jusayinlike

Trump has a hotel right beside Epstein’s palace, he has every reason to be out there, why is Bill on the Lolita express?

The allegations on Trump have yet to be solidified, I’ve no doubt they will be in future

            weak listrade..

          3. Listrade

Ah they’re just neighbours! My mistake. I must be imagining the record of Trump on the notorious plane in 2009, the Epstein investigators having details of calls between Trump and Epstein and Epstein having Trump in his “black book” with 14 different private contact numbers.

But use whatever criteria you want to justify accusations against one while saying there is no evidence against another. Just don’t bore us with your take moral high ground, it doesn’t stack up and isn’t applied evenly.

          4. jusayinlike

Like I said listrade, the allegations against trump are more than likely to be proven, until than I reserve my judgment on him, he has a valid reason for being there unlike Bill but that something that you seem to be glossing over in your attempt to try and pigeonhole me

            FAIL

          5. Listrade

Nah. Not buying it. I haven’t defended Clinton so you can’t even throw that at me. I believe there is the same accumulation of anecdotal evidence for him as there is Trump.

I just find it interesting that even with the same finger pointing, accusations and cooborating evidence, the Trump defence league who are so intent on accusing every democrat a paedophile suddenly develops a sense of a higher level of proof when it comes to Trump.

Even when their poster boy Milo stated the exact same thing David Norris said, they were silent.

            Just funny is all.

Anyway, if you do wish to extract head from Trump’s rectum, you can easily find information on him and Epstein, his modelling agency being used for trafficking, his links to the Russian mob who helped there, numerous accusations of sexual assault and Epstein and his brother giving evidence of Trump’s flights and links to the island.

But hey, Trump says Epstein’s a really great guy remember.

          6. jusayinlike

I don’t care if your buying it my original comment was in reference to Ken Clarke and his dalliances, you have shifted it to US soil for reasons unknown, perhaps it’s because you reckon I am pro Trump you are sadly mistaken, I have never defended him or his filthy cohorts, when ready you can remove your head from your own rectum and hopefully get a gust of fresh air for once

          7. jusayinlike

perhaps your sore because I like to laugh at the hypocrisy of the neo-con infested fragile minded left who have spent the last 8 years hugging drones and democracy shelling the middle east. I’m sorry if my opinions/facts have clattered you around the head to the point of anger and outrage

          8. Nigel

Nigelspeak for gobbling up every lie spat out by Trump and Co for your anti-Clinton crusade. That’s what I call fragile hypocrisy.

          9. NNigel

I’d much rather focus on the people you wanted to win, and who won, than watch endless YouTube vids about e-nails and pizza gate and spirit cooking, thanks.

    3. Deluded

      Ken Clarke on Brexit:
“Apparently you follow the rabbit down the hole and emerge in a Wonderland where suddenly countries throughout the world are queuing up to give us trading advantages and access to their markets that previously we’ve never been able to achieve. Nice men like President Trump and President Erdogan are just impatient to abandon their normal protectionism and give us access . . . No doubt somewhere there’s a hatter holding a tea party with a dormouse!”

The point here isn’t a concern for children, rather that the smear will offend some but means nothing to Trumpets, as we have learned.
