All the same IBEC, ISME, Young Fine Gael trolls from the Luas strike are ready at their keyboards, waiting to denounce Bus Eireann employees as demons for wanting a fair pay deal and the chance to raise a family without fear of poverty.

So the comment on the fact one of things being cut was treble time pay which is €45+ hr, what was wrong with the comment.

This isn’t going to be resolved until the government(s) cop on and properly fund the public transport system

They need to stop running our public transport system as though it should make a profit. That’s not it’s purpose.

I can see the reason to squeeze it every now and then to make it more efficient, get with the 21st century, etc, but it’s getting to the point where they’re cutting into bone

Intelligent and practical Governments (such as those in Germany, Holland and the Nordic countries amongst others) see efficient and inexpensive public transport as a necessity and fully support it. We of course choose to ape the British, with the obvious consequences.

Running it at a millions+ lose each year and paying Excessively high wages and perks is not how to do it either

My abject and sincere apologies to Harry. I expected the standard response and misread. That is no excuse, I was wrong.

Paying over the odds to union members is not “investing in public services”, despite the attempts of the beardies to conflate the two at every opportunity.

Rubbish. These clowns want an express service that runs locally. They’ve 20% of drivers on stand-by. I heard drivers only drive just over 50% of the time their paid. No one will ever pay for an “express ticket” if it stops in every back ar5e hole along the way.

“It said on average, drivers are paid for 9.4 hours a day, with 1.6 hours overtime, while they only drive for 5.5 hours.”

The drivers’ union man said on the News tonight that they were willing to negotiate on efficiencies but the company was refusing to talk.

Sure they are. Unions, well known for proactively changing work practices for the benefit of their employer and/or customers.

That would tie in perfectly with tachograph driving time allowances and EU driving time directives…or do you want them to drive a passenger laden,16 ton,13 mtr rig for 10hrs without a break at all….get your tax dollars worth….

PS. Why can’t we use those funny little faces which are on the ‘phone, and save so much conversation? ;-)

is this another one that Shane Ross says is none of his business? I wonder if it’s a surprise for him everytime he hears he’s minister for transport?

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Well eff me pink and call me Rosy. I just heard Howlin stand up in the Dail to berate Kenny about “the race to the bottom” “decency” and “attacks on workers’ pay and conditions”!! This from a former member of The Gang of Four? I’ve come over all peculiar ;-D
