Fred Hanna’s bookshop on Nassau Street, Dublin; the late Fred Hanna

In Dublin’s Gutter Bookshop wins prize at British Book Awards, it is stated that the Gutter Bookshop has been “named Independent Bookshop of the Year (UK and Ireland) at the 2017 British Book Awards. It is the first time an Irish bookshop has won the award.”

In 1995, Fred Hanna won the inaugural O’Brien Bookseller Award, and in 1998, at the British Book Awards, he was declared Independent Bookseller of the Year. Sadly, Fred Hanna passed away in 2011 but he should be remembered as one of Ireland’s finest independent booksellers.

Is the bookstore in the photo not the one that was on Aston Quay until the early 90s? Bike say 29 Naasau St,

Great street for bookworms was Nassau; Hanna’s, Reads and then Greene’s further up on Clare St. Not to mention the National Library at the Kildare St. junction.

Long gone now. I remember it was the only place to get my books for Latin and Classical Studies…. Yeah, I know…. But hey were subjects I loved…

Anyways. Now a spot that sells sub standard suits.
