You can tell the Irish Times isn’t published on a Sunday – i.e., no headline about infantile chalk messages scrawled on “gay” bar in Dublin #snowflake #outrage #hatecrime #willthisdouna?
Bertie "the inexplicable pleasure" Blenkinsop
Having been in The George on occasion, I can assure you that your inverted commas are unnecessary.
Brother Barnabas
As I explained on the night, I was expressing affection – nothing else. Just got a bit carried away.

Oh Brother Barnabas, that 15 minutes when you left Broadsheet were the longest of my life.

Yes.
And thank you for asking.

The British newspapers are slurping heavily on royal family values. May the newly-wed couple have lots of bouncing babies.

Almost a 2 million euro pension to Enda Kenny. Yet another highly paid fool. As always, the joke is upon those who voted for him. His career in many ways represented the apotheosis of old style Irish politics. He believed in nothing, accomplished nothing, yet still rose by dint of outliving his rivals. When FG patsies like Shane Coleman and others start talking about ‘history being kind,’ then that’s a really bad sign Enda. But I don’t expect him to realize that. The funny thing is that life in Ireland, political life anyway, doesn’t change. The class that came in after 1921 were pretty much the Brits by another name. They felt nothing but contempt for ordinary people, and by God how you have been true to their legacy. You leave, on your way to your obese pension, a society more divided, more unequal, more filled with despair and hatred than that which you inherited. And this at a time when he had the opportunity to do things so differently. But Enda doesnt care or even think about that. And what’s coming after you doesn’t look so promising. So enjoy that lucrative retirement. You don’t deserve it. But in a country where 10,000 people will continue to vote for Michael Lowry after you’re gone, maybe we get what we deserve. The likes of you certainly weren’t interested in ever helping people to know any better.

I accept, from, several source, that Kenny was an affable and friendly type, with the Terry Crone nurtured knack of making people think he was actually interested in the tales of woe that they brought to him. What I cannot forgive is his (deliberate) failure to bring about vital structural reform to politics and the civil service in this country, as he promised to do. As to the rest, tearful delivery of speeches crafted by others, just doesn’t get it as far as I’m concerned. An enormous opportunity was squandered, which may never come again. Their security depends on keeping the peasants fighting amongst themselves for scraps – see the whole picture.
Moderate THIS!
Would you ever give over? Who ever thought he was going to bring the type of reforms you’re talking about? It was never going to happen.
