This morning’s Sunday Times
Oy vey.
Sorry, ladies — equal pay has to be earned (Kevin Myers, Sunday Times)
Meanwhile…
.@thetimes has actually run a column saying Jews are money-grubbers. Today. In 2017. https://t.co/5nYqHeYuOT

Columnist fired over ‘anti-Semitic’ Sunday Times article (BBC)

Come for the tortured syntax and the painful Oscar-Wilde-on-downers witticisms, stay for the casual anti-Semitism! I’d actually managed to forget he existed and now here he is being even worse than ever.
+1
this could backfire on flight lieutenant Myers, the jews have always been over represented in the entertainment, mainly because they set the whole thing up, Hollywood was set up by fire and passion of emigrants fleeing the russian pogroms, most of the early rock managers in the UK were Jewish, Larry Parnes, Brian Epstein, Arden and his daughter Sharon.
Holy hell. .the London times must want rid of him..”sure thing there kev, do what you do best, we’ll print it this Sunday, OK, bye, see you soon, bye” phone hangs up, editor then says to his colleagues nearby “make sure we leave enough space for an apology and resignation on monday”….All guffaw with laughter, “ha, ha, we can finally get rid of that obnoxious clown, anyone feel like a pint and bucket of pork scratches?” is probably the exact conversation that probably occurred in the editorial offices last night….
ha
…Kevin given enough rope to hang himself…can’t decide which end of the rope to use so he make a noose on both ends…ends…
…And he’s gone.
I would imagine poor Kevin’s days as an opinion shaper are now over.
Guess there’s always RTE, who in recent years have excelled at rehabilitating persons otherwise beyond redemption.
There is always the Daily Mail?
Why did they hire him the first place? I buy the Sunday times and I was really disappointed when he started to write for them.
Dear God. . .
massive lol, haven’t seen that eejit in a long time, he’s more to be laughed at and mocked and representative of no one but himself.
I once saw him use one of his columns to state his disappointment at how lunches in the Shelbourne had went downhill which was made obvious when his glass of champagne was more cool than chilled…
A very real problem
Come on broadsheet have you no sense of humour at all now?
+1
the article has been removed and the times has issued an apology on twitter.
They passed it for printing though. Bit late now.
I heard from a subeditor in Irish edition of times that late shifts are so short-staffed that they only check 1 in 3 articles. and that the likes of Myers (experienced old pro etc) would be trusted.
Myers has a notorious reputation for being an obnoxious troll. He was fired from the Irish Times, and got into serious trouble at the Indo as well.
Interesting as many people are saying that the Corbynistas who do not mind a bit of……..
are now everywhere
Wasn’t there some story a few years ago that he insists his columns would not be edited?
Indo is clearly pure of such, as it is getting on the bandwagon now deleting a Meyers piece from 2009…
today… apparently.
LOL

Christ… it has been quite some time since it may have been considered a paper of record but they could at least appreciate their own history, even if they now disagree with it.
go on the deise
Good luck to ’em…. Galway is off to a bad start :/
Google cache is your friend:
I’m a holocaust denier, but I also believe the Nazis planned the extermination of the Jewish people
“Let me say from the outset; I’m with Bishop Richard Williamson on this. There was no holocaust, (or Holocaust, as my computer software insists) and six million Jews were not murdered by the Third Reich. These two statements of mine are irrefutable truths, yet their utterance could get me thrown in the slammer in half the countries of the EU.”
“Why, they could in the right circumstances even get me extradited for trial in Sweden, a country which heroically kept the Third Reich supplied with iron ore, even as the last victims of the Nazi genocide were being murdered.”

How the hell did that get printed in the first place? Bloody hell
Here’s one…. why is the assption in “pay gaps” that the other is under paid?
Why not ask to lower the higher ones… or something in between.
Because it’s not about being equal, and doing good for all, it’s about getting more, for yourself?
it is licence fee money after all, so shouldn’t they be looking to keep wages down, like good employees.

Ha! Love It
Like who ever thought of putting egalitarian and feminism under the same pair of “s
Sounds like he would fit right as a late night TV show host, oh wait there’s a vacancy at TV3…
Having read the article, I will say it’s not ALL bad, (overwrought writing aside) .
He does make the point that nobody is speaking about equality for the canteen workers, or the cleaners. Which is true.
He does speak of the absurdity of the salaries being paid to all the top earners in the BBC and RTE, which again, is true.
He attempts to argue that RTE and BBC are essentially defunct, in terms of their mandate , which is an interesting subject to explore.
Of course, he’s Kevin Myers, so his downright uncanny ability to shoot himself in the foot with the most inappropriate of comments ruins an article that could’ve had merit.
Very true Lucy.
Again I ask, who says these people asking for more money deserve more?
The whole BBC/RTE gender pay gaps, as reported on presenter salaries, can be summed up as…
“He doesn’t deserve that salary, he’s paid more than me, I want what he has”.
Next bit is usually ignored..
“…So I can be equally overpaid”
He’s not being judged on the whole article but the reference to Jewish people. Deal with it. The subject matter of the article is irrelevant.
In vino veritas!
Update:speaking of useful measures of inveterate lost-with-all-hands stupidity, he has been fired. What an amazing unter-journalist to write himself so completely out of a salary! We will carry on unacquainted with his sterling work, or his euro work, and continue to never use his name and ‘journalism’ in the same sentence without a negative or collapsing in indifference.
The Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph are always hiring…
Where’s ol’ Mary Ellen Synon being horrible about stuff these days? They’d be great stablemates. A perfect borestorm of tedious strained turgid contrarianism.
Brenda Power also writes for the Sunday Times. Another stablemate who should have ia sacking coming.
Also I bloody LOVE Claudia she’s a legend
+1 for Claudia, love the bones of her.

Sometimes it’s better to keep silent and let people wonder if you are an idiot as opposed to speaking out and confirming it for everyone. He not on his own either. A good 3/4 of the Irish Press Corp appear like they might have a 6 pack but are missing the plastic thingy that holds them all together. Idiots always out themselves. Journalists!!! Lol.. give me a break
Stop giving out to Col. Myers. Alone and unaided he built the Empire, and deserves our adoration as a result. He, and his like, continue to keep the barbarians from the gate. Shame on you unter menschen!
Did anyone sIutdrop when they heard this news? Almost sprained me ankle…
Excellent use of slutdrop. May I borrow it sometime?
can’t say for certain whether I performed a slutdrop in response to the news or whether I was going to do it anyway, but yes
I don’t know what slutdrop means but I’m pretty sure my husband did it last night. in our room. with my friend.
For his work to revive the defunt British Empire should he not be Knighted and
given a gong or some sort of a hat with an ostrich feather stuck in it.
He spoke the truth. Jews are good negotiators.
“To learn who rules over you, find out who you are not allowed to criticise”
Voltaire
I must be the only dumb one
and my kids are too…lousy negotiaters
Are they indeed Derek? Have you anymore insights?
Wise words indeed…

Just wondering about the Editor
Frank Fitzgibbon
Should he not go too
I’d say he is a worried man this morning
On the way out I’d say. He’s the flippin’ editor for pete’s sake. He’s supposed to read the damn pages before they go to print. He gave this piece the thumbs up for sure and will probably pay the consequences.
Sarah Carey is getting the last laugh. I noticed Mick Heaney gave her Newstalk radio programme a great review in the IT on Saturday. Not that I listen to it but interesting nonetheless how things unfold.
where does Sarah Carey fit in?
One good thing about myers is that he stirs up some interesting debates sometimes. I doubt he writes an artical without that in mind and most likely does not even believe half the nonsense he comes up with.
As bad as he is or can be, and this is very mild by his standards.. if the BBC did not have a policy of zero tolerance for even the mention of the term “jew” and this taboo had not been broken then this might have gone by unnoticed, along with the rest of his usual inane ramblings.
I’m not defending him or condeming him but you can’t mention anything about the Jews and in particular, zionism, the balfour declaration, the Yinon plan etc or any detail about the history of Israel in the british media without a severe backlash from the lobbyists who influence the BBC, public opinion and discourse through patrolling the entire media. If you can even get it broadcast in the first place.
It’s not my opinion, it has been reported frequently even on the BBC itself frequently in debate and conversations on various topical programmes, in documentaries about political and lobbying influence from BBC Panorama and even comedian extrodinaire Frankie Boyle said recently that the only stipulation that the BBC had when he was making his new show was that he couldn’t mention anything to do with Jews or more to the point, zionism etc.
If your familiar with Boyles’s work and at the same time, completely unaware of the influence of lobbyists then that request by the BBC is just weirdness personified. Why not prohibit mentioning other specific cultures or issues around rape, incest or jokes or abortion etc. The BBC has long had many more serious problems and equality of pay is only the tip of the iceberg….
I know myers has previously said some awful things and my well be anti-jewish, racist, bigoted and mysogonistic but I don’t see it here. At least not the degree that the storm would have you believe.
