there are some superb photos by Donal Moloney of the Palin di Siena horse racing festival in July
would be nice to post them here
(that’s to you, Bodger)
Thanks be to god you can still turn to the running and not neglect your smoking friends.
That’s Rock N’ Roll left in ’em after all that ! :)
To be fair, the VHI Women’s Mini-Marathon saw far more smokers. Irony that.
the clue is in the word mini
grrr
huh?
lung capacity for a 5k or whatever short distance your race is isn’t going to be significantly affected by smoking
not taking anything away from people who get up and out and accomplish the distances that are a challenge to them, it’s great.
5k or 10 km is respectful in itself,
but the whole using the words mini marathon ? you want a marathon ? run one
and you’ll probably find as you hack up a lung at 30k that smoking isn’t your freind
sorry rant over
subject close to my heart
Ah gotcha. Yes, Mini-marathon – what is it a 10K – 6+ miles? They should be sued for using the word Marathon.
yep
call it what it is
respect the distance whatever that is
They said it was a “half marathon”. That’s 21.5k. Most smokers would barf a lung doing it. It’s a major achievement for non smokers too, particularly those new to running.
yep absolutely
I was off on a tangent in response to the whole mini phenomenon
The Rock ‘N’ Roll Half Marathon is now owned by the IronMan crowd. They won’t run two events so close together in the same city. I’d bet one of them goes west next year.

And IronMan 70.3 Dublin next weekend stillhasn’t sold out: http://eu.ironman.com/triathlon/events/emea/ironman-70.3/dublin/register.aspx#axzz4ppSSq2za
They should offer a discount for smokers.
