Surely a fraction of these 900 workers could have offered a bed.
Gravy train. In general, we have vast duplication in the charity sector. There are 48 (!) involved in suicide prevention alone.

if only you could concentrate those heomeless people into camps and sell their hair and teeth, eh?
no Dav the bottom gone out of that particular morket a good while back, they’re a net cost.
you’re much better off getting into property imo. or Bitcoin.
Surely we shouldn’t be surprised that relying on charities to deal with a crisis which continues to grow through political incompetence and inaction is incredibly inefficient, especially given how poorly regulated our charities have turned out to be, but does allow people to start scapegoating charities.
This is why the concept of a State was developed – to formulate and regulate proper coordinated solutions to societal problems, not relying on the vagaries of charitable organisations, (however well intentioned) which are now morphing into large companies with huge overheads and well paid CEO’s and very large morkeshing budgets. The state and civilised services have been dismantled, dis-invested and profitable services commodified to private entities and the charities try to fill the void. Backwards we’re going.
nicely put
Preach it.
+1 for certain services imo, prevention of homelessness being one
Your characterisation of the charity sector is ill-informed and dangerous. Most people work with the best of intentions and limited resources. Please read Benfacts for proper insight into charities before tarring all with same brush. This is why donations are down and more people suffering.
Good I hope most of them shut. Their biggest benefactors are the staff.
You big hearted softie you!
The Peter McVerry Trust do everything they can. I am forever amazed at the work they do.
Ive been seeing a lot more people pan handling around Dublin recently.
Alice Leahy said as much recently.
Far too many charities with naïve workers hat have little understanding of the real issues and even less of an understanding of how to solve problems.
She stated money is NOT the issue and that money was being wasted. Tales of people being woken up 4 times a night by different charities offering soup.
So you agree that our right wing government is failing these Irish citizens who have nowhere to sleep, right? And they are failing because of their right wing ideology of greed and selfishness and apathy for your neighbour? And that they need to do much, much better? Good man.
Successive governments have failed. They have also failed to reform the HSE which effectively holds this country to ransom and itself fails its community every single day.
No government has the balls to tackle it and I wouldn’t hold out any hope that a left wing government would do any different.
*Successive right wing governments have failed.
How dreadful
So you actually reply to your own comments, but as Mary… thats a trick boys play when they have no friends.
And we had the gall to apply to host the rugby World Cup.
how many more families would have been evicted out on to the streets to free up hotel rooms / Air Bnb, for the rugby supporters?
Yea how awful that rugby supporters should feel bad for the homeless
yes, such emotions might upset their beer guzzling and chants.
You sound like you want to dictate to others how they should spend their leisure hours dav
no, just point out inequality where it thrives.
Where’s the inequality? What do you know about the social economy of a rugby fan? Sounds like you’re making very broad assumptions
I’m surprised to see so many on concrete exposed to the elements . They will be chilled to the bone without a doubt. Maybe that’s why they are woken up for soup.
