I think this sign is to stop people doing what the stick man is doing in the middle. South east Asians love going this way, (and leaving a mess behind). Worked in London 7 years ago and HR had to give training to new recruits from that part of the world in how to use western toilets. True story.

I cannot comment on the external mess arising out of technique in middle illustration but I can say that internally it is cleaner and more effective. It gives a less acute angle to the internal sphincter which ensures an easier descent to the pelvic floor and external sphincter with less obstruction to the puborectalis. Upshot is a sense of greater satisfaction and fuller evacuation of the bowels. Indeed if you try it you will never revert to the Western method. Novices may find it useful to turn the other way so that you are facing the cistern, can also hold on to it.

haha, indeed, one could use a footstool to achieve the same affect, no? Ah no, in fairness it is what they are used too, not compatible with the armitage shanks loo though!!

        Stop that.

Unless you plan on inviting me over to eat them all.

How did the cranberry and orange ones turn out for you?

ah it’s a great combo, sometimes I’ll chop up a little dark choc and add in for a Terry’s choc orange thing…been fiddling with scones for couple of years now..easy but tricky enough…the only way to go really as usual is to use good ingredients & don’t beat the bejasus out of the mix. one of the simple best tips I picked up on is if you’re using dried fruits (sultanas, raisins, cranberries and the like) is to presoak them in boiled water/into cold/drain excess water prior to mixing in. sure I might throw up a recipe when I’ve a chance

I like the slab of salty butter but been a while since I’ve had the great clotted cream…with a decent strawberry jam that’s a winner for sure! best bought strawberry jam ever I’ve had hands down btw is Malone’s from Closh, Carlow…better than anything you’ll get at the counters in Harrods
