    Oscar winners well deserved.

My only quibble is Gary Oldman. Is there ANYONE who could not act as a Winston Churchill. They could have cast George Hook FFS.

As for Saoirse Ronan… you can go back to being from Carlow now. Let the sob stories begin…

    No surprises.

Lovely frocks ladies, by the way.

The front page of the Indo: I say we take off and nuke Crossmaglen from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure. Nothing good has ever, or will ever, emerge from that pissant of a place where the one remaining horse was kneecapped decades ago.

Stay at home do not go out do not use roads and effectively grind the country to a halt
Maybe the answer lies in the way this was managed
Meanwhile brexit looms and this gob white who presided over the disaster in health weaves his magic

Hah, the country was better prepared for the weather than the UK were for Brexit, no wonder you’re peeved.

    2. Rob_G

Yes, even when it was the weather system, I knew in fact that it was Leo behind the snow all along.

Brits soft border plan could damage Europe
So soft border that Ireland is looking for is now a non runner
    What sort of plonker
The Reich are using our country’s leadership as a mouth piece
    Its time we woke up
Micky pull the plug in the national interest
The mask is slipping in the games going on as brexit degenerates into the ruination of this country
Andrew Marr interviewed Hammond tore him apart the other day regarding brexit

The British Taoiseach, in yet another climb down from a position agreed with the EU last December, trotted out the usual “technological means” fantasy and some guff about no restrictions on small business cross border trade, for a border between the EU and the UK on the island of Ireland. That no restrictions part means no border between the EU single market and an outside party which obviously is unlikely to be acceptable to the EU.

The fact the Simon Coveney has to point this out to the British public is yet another sign of the British government’s utter incompetence and complete lack of understanding of what Brexit actually means.

Far from being the ruination of this country, the Brexit fiasco is showing the strength that Ireland has with the EU fighting its corner against the idiots in Westminster.

      1. anyone

The Brits are right. NI SME trade is insignificant in the wider shape of things and some fudge will be found. Who cares about a little smuggling here and there in a rural backwater of the EU?
You guys are out of touch with reality

        1. ReproBertie

          Who exactly are “you guys”?

NI SME trade may be insignificant when compared to overall EU trade but that doesn’t mean the EU will accept a back door into the customs union. Despite the idiots behind Brexit trying to make a big deal of Ireland having a veto on the deal, the simple truth is that the deal will have to be accepted by every EU country so any one of them can dig their heels in about the EU/UK border and scupper the agreement leaving the UK to deal with WTO rules and tariffs.

          1. david

Anyone who cannot see the game that’s being played as the EU use Ireland leadership to be mouth pieces for them
            Am I right ”anyone”

          2. ReproBertie

You mean the game where Ireland, as a member of the EU, has representatives reiterate the EU position? That EU position being that the GFA must be upheld and there can be no hard border on the island of Ireland, as agreed by the British Taoiseach back in December.

          3. anyone

            They can but they won’t

They rely far more on free trade with the UK than Coveney a fupping yachty twit or some doctors son out of mulhuddart would know anything about.

          4. ReproBertie

Who do you believe relies so much on free trade with the UK that they’d be willing to shaft another EU state to keep it?

Even if every other EU country felt that way, Ireland’s “fupping yachty twit or some doctors son out of mulhuddart” can still veto the deal.

        2. david

          Exactly
Watched Andrew Marr he other way take apart coveney. Its becoming apparent our leadership are like programmed monkeys spouting the EU line and disregarding the people of this country
By the time they are finished the GFA will be in tatters and a major trade war will result between the EU and the UK
We will be the first casualty and will when looking for help get the same treatment as before
Sadly the family silver has been pillaged by vultures

          1. ReproBertie

You do realise that Ireland is still in the EU and the EU line is the Irish line, right? Being part of the EU means there can be no side deals on trade.

          2. david

Yep and even more yep because our leaders are allowing the EU to do exactly such and sit there as we say good byte to the GFA and realise a hard border will be on our island
They will sit there and take this like the troika
But Europe will not experience the results of what the IRA did in their campaign of death or the unionist terrorists
No they will not but that could happen on this island again
As well as that our trade with the UK which is 50%of our exports mainly agriculture will be finished
And as it host up and the nastiness prevails that could mean Ireland gets a big FU from the UK
Various nations have deals with the EU so do not believe this bull shit spouted
Remember before the Euro and the lowering of boarders trade deals existed and we had a special deal with the UK
A dangerous game is being played and our jobsite leadership do not get it

          3. ReproBertie

What a load of ill-informed, scaremongering claptrap.

The fall back position, should the EU/UK not come up with a better deal, is the border in the Irish Sea and Northern Ireland stays within the same customs and regulatory space as the EU. That is what the British Taoiseach signed up to and that means no hard border and the GFA stands.

The UK is not the destination of 50% of our exports and our trade with the UK is just as important to the UK as it is to us, despite what the hard-Brexiteers might say to try and frighten us.

Various nations have deals with the EU. This is correct. The point is that EU nations don’t do individual deals. The EU does the deals and the EU will be doing the deal with the UK. As an EU member Ireland cannot do an individual deal with the UK any more than Italy or Germany can.

Remember once upon a time we were part of the British Empire. That was then, just as life before the Euro was then. This is now. The situation has changed and we are no longer as reliant on the UK as we were back in the 60’s.

          4. ReproBertie

A lot of that dairy product is the same stuff going back and forth as it gets processed. That’s part of the reason why we had the customs and regulatory uniformity on the island of Ireland included in the draft documents.
