A Bowl Of Lather

at

Yesterday.

Sea Fishing Ireland tweetz:

Very heavy foam detergent coming ashore at Sandycove’s Forty Foot near James Joyce’s Tower. I preferred “the sea, the snotgreen sea, the scrotumtightening sea” not cleaned this way.

Anyone?

This was a common sight where I grew up. As kids on stormy days we used to try scoop it from the sea a lob it at each other.

I’m still not sure what the point of it was.

…it’s called spume….or as Joyce said in (and of) Finnegans Wake…’a tail toiled in spume and spawn’

        Every day’s a school day :)

I tried reading FW in college. It’s the literary equivalent of chasing your own tail only to realise the tail never existed in the first place. Suffice it to say, I didn’t finish it.

There’s a builders fence up around the 40 foot entrance this morning. No sign indicating it’s unsafe, as of 11o’clock it looks clear enough and there are people swimming. There are 5 or 6 container ships/tankers moored in the bay. Might they be the cause of this?

it’s just salty foam – entirely natural AFAIK, lots of it out in Wicklow over the weekend too.
