This day 47 years ago – 20 July 1974 – a group of women protested the hitherto male-only bathing place of Forty Foot, Sandycove, Co Dublin.
Among those protesting were journalist Nell McCafferty, politician Nuala Fennell and poet Mary D’Arcy.

Both nearby Seapoint and the Forty Foot got the all clear for swimming today, but still no joy for Sandycove where no Swimming notices remain in place.

Sandycove Beach earlier this week
Earlier this week Dún Laoighaire-Rathdown County Council issued a swimming ban at Seapoint, Sandycove and Forty Foot beaches following an overflow from wastewater treatment plants in in Dublin Bay.
Dublin City Council issued a similar swimming ban for Dollymount Strand following an overflow from the treatment plant in Ringsend.

Beaches update! Testing results show Seapoint & Forty Foot bathing areas safe for swimming.
Sandycove Beach sample showed elevated levels of e.coli /enterocci & will remain closed pending additional results due Friday
Fresh water test results are also expected to be returned for Dollymount today.
